2x15 Cabs?

Re: 2x15 Cabs?

I've only used a 1x15 before, but I've read up on them since. They're a little smoother sounding than a 12. Very nice for cleans but when used with distortion they tend to be missing a whole bunch of frequencies that a 12 would normally produce, thus sound kind of off in a scooped sort of way.

It's probably why you don't see many 'metal' dudes use 15s without a set of 12s accompanying them.

I dunno man, my weber cali 15 isn't missing anything, it's probably the cleanest speaker I've ever played.

They're a little thicker on the bass, which gets accentuated with more gain, but that's just the nature of the beast. Personally I like it, a slightly slower movin cone is almost like a tube rectifier or something, it adds a little sag and sustain when you get it up there.

but no I don't see "metal" metal dudes usin em. That sag works great for any of the stonery sub-genres but it's not conducive to the super super tight mesa high-gain v30 superstrat thing.

Oh and the vader cab--look at that f-in frequency range-- 35 to 3.5? Are those even guitar speakers?

NO idea tbh . . .

. . . but one of those 2X12 Vader cabs, with a *4x12 (w Reaper drivers) & a **4X10 (w Delta Demons), would probably be just what i need, if i can connect 3 cabs to my head.

Re: 2x15 Cabs?

The only 2x15 maker I know of is North Coast, who makes replica Vox speaker cabs. . .but they aren't cheap. .

Re: 2x15 Cabs?

"metal" includes doom metal and stoner metal.

Yeah I agree, but they're very different tones that you approach very differently. One is a good set of PAF-ish pickups into a matamp or a fuzz into a big heavy amp like a v4, the other is a bunch of bees in a metal trash can, errrr uhh, EMG's into a dual rec

Re: 2x15 Cabs?

I forgot, ( old) Kustom also made some 2x15's. Ev (OOP) Force 15's are pretty balanced for most styles. Your other speakers are mostly for cleans and blues-rock...and Drone or Stoner.

You're on about the approach, but you're off in regards to the choice in amps and pickups. Doom/stoner has never been that closed minded in terms of gear.....There's even a whole sub-genre dedicated to the metal trashcan sound.

Re: 2x15 Cabs?

The Avatar 2x12 Vintage cab is massive and I believe would fit 2x15s with a redesigned baffle board. It's great quality and has massive sound, plus it's one of the best looking cabs available (if you like the vintage look, which I do).
