3 perfect guitars

Re: 3 perfect guitars

Telcaster (probably with a neck humbucker)
My Strat
The Neal Schon Les Paul (for the looks, sustainer, OFR... I'll probably have to sell a kidney for something like this guitar).

Re: 3 perfect guitars

Seriously, if I had to choose three guitars, I'd choose a late 50's Strat, an early 60's Strat, and a '68-'69 Strat.

But for the heck of versatility, I'd probably go with a 50's or early 60's Strat, an ES-339 or ES-335, and a Jackson Soloist or JS1200.

I'd always end up wanting a Gretsch and a LP and also a Tele though.

Acoustics I dunno, I guess one of those Koa Taylors....or really, anything with a gorgeous solid koa top would win me over probably...

Re: 3 perfect guitars

- PRS CE-24 maple top. Maple neck, rosewood fretboard, mahogany body with maple cap, trem, 2 humbs with coil split option, wired with a 3 way switch instead of the stupid 5 way. Matheo Blue color. (I have this one)

- PRS Hollowbody 2, with the same electronics as above, with the standard specs, but no birds (I find those distracting and not my style). Black cherry color.

- Fender tele, with a humbucker in the neck and a SD hotrails in the bridge, both on a split push-pull pot. Daphne blue, with white guard, and rosewood fretboard on a maple neck.

1.) PRS 513 for sheer versatility.

2.)Tele, again versatile. Rocks harder than a standard Strat.

3.) Kramer Baretta, one trick pony but I love the one trick.

The only one of these I actually own is a Tele, but if I had to have 3 I think this would do it.

Re: 3 perfect guitars

I'm gonna break the rules, so just deal with it:

#1 59 LP standard (flame/burst)
#2 57 LP Custom (black beauty 3 pickup)
#3 ES-335 (any year)
#4 57 Strat (two-tone)
#5 52 Tele (blond)
#6 Martin HD-28
#7 Gibson J-45

Bonus round:
#8 PRS CE24
#9 Ovation Balladeer
#10 Jackson Soloist

Just for giggles:
#11 Original 58 Korina V
#12 Explorer
#13 SG (any year)

Re: 3 perfect guitars

I'll just go by what I use....
Strat
LP Std.
ES-335

with a 4th choice, of course I'd throw a tele in there.

Re: 3 perfect guitars

A slightly beefed up rosewood fretboard Strat, Grover tuners, maybe large headstock, make sure pickup aren't too thin, 1-11/16" nut, 9'5" fretboard.

A LP Standard, unchambered, ABR-1 bridge, 50ties neck, EVH/78 + Ant.

A Nylon String Acoustic.

Re: 3 perfect guitars

With much munny:

- G&L ASAT Classic
- G&L Legacy HB
- Gibson Les Paul '59 STD

- Martin D-45

With not so much munny:

- 3x Warmoth LPS, my specs

With the munny I have at the moment:

- 3x Squier '51 :D

On the second thought, even in the much munny case, I'd go with 3 Warmoths and spend the extra $$$ for an SSL X-Rack.

Re: 3 perfect guitars

Steve Clark's Black Beauty/3 pickup custom
Dave Murray's strat
Marty Friedman's Kelly.

Re: 3 perfect guitars

Washburn Culprit (black)
Tom Anderson Drop Top (red) Basswood body, maple top, maple neck, pau ferro fretboard
Breedlove Noveau classical - port orford top, myrtlewood back & sides, rosewood fingerboard

Re: 3 perfect guitars

1. Les Paul (maple top, mahogany body and neck, rosewood board, two humbuckers, Page wiring)
2. Stratocaster (2-point 'vintage' vibrato ((no Floyd Rose or Kahler type)), alder body, maple neck, rosewood board, SSS pup config with a slightly hotter bridge pickup)
3. ES-175

Telecaster, ES-335, SG would be cool too, though.

Re: 3 perfect guitars

I'm not gonna bother with years, precise specs etc. - but a really nice one of each of these :

Les Paul
SG
Tele

Re: 3 perfect guitars

'48 ES350P (natural)...
early-mid 60's 345...
singlecut LP Special...

all becoming more affordable every day...just saw an original Special for under 3500 locally. I can't think of any Fenders I'd want beside an early Jazzmaster...

Everyone else lists 3, you list 13. A man of moderation.

Hey, Aceman, have you seen some of those 1970 SG's? Good God they were ugly. Totally ruined SG's for a while. Wasn't until the mid '80's that they finally went back to the 1960's designs. You might want to rethink this one. And what's with putting the SG at the bottom of the list? Should be near the top for a man like you that appreciates the quality of Gibsons.

Re: 3 perfect guitars

In no particular order of favouritism.

1. Teuffel Birdfish
2. Gus G1 Vibrato
3. Red Special style

Re: 3 perfect guitars

These three:
Les Paul std
HSS Stratocaster
McCarty

....and these:
Tele
Mockingbird
Hamer FM
Explorer
Firebird
SG61
LP jr P-90

Re: 3 perfect guitars

I got bits and pieces of mine...

- Dave Grohl sig 335 (or some similar ES-335 with PAF clone pickups)
- '56 NOS Strat with Duncan Antiquities
- A mid 50s Tele RI with a huge neck, overwound pickups, a useable neck pup, brass saddles, quartersawn maple neck in Fiesta red of course
- Taylor 514ce, which I'll be getting because I got a huge scholarship for bizerklee!

Re: 3 perfect guitars

OK - by the book:

59 Lp standard - rock and metal
57 strat - blues and rock
ES-335 - jazz, blues, and rock

That'll go pretty darn far!

Anyone seen pics of Mark Knopflers stable? Pretty awesome choice selections.
