Re: 30-40Watt combos - nice demos here.
Thanks for posting those videos. I am in the market for a 30-40W 1x12 combo.
My first thought: That Peavey sounds like utter **** in every single example. And the Laney is not far behind. So they are out...WAY out.
My second thought: The Orange and the Marshall 401 are pretty gutless and bland, but the Marshall sounds less clattery...though still thin. Both probably have one-or-two-trick pony status for me, with the Marshall being more suitable.
So the Haze and the Blackstar were by far the top two to my ears. And in that two-way contest, the Blackstar was beaten hands down. It just has no personality in these examples. Plus the Haze is a bit cheaper, isn't it?
Wish the Mesa F30 and 5/25 were in there.
In summary, here is my ordered list, based solely on these videos:
1. Could make use of (i.e. "would consider owning"):
A. Haze (by a long shot)
B. Blackstar
2. Kind of cool for some things ("would play but would not own"):
A. JCM 2000 DSL 401
B. Orange
3. Terrible ("would rather sing my guitar parts through the mic than use one of these"):
A. Laney
B. Peavey
I also couldn't stand 3 out of 4 of those guitarists. The 2nd guy was not great, though I could at least stomach him.
