4x 6v6 amps? Do they exist?

Are there any quad 6v6 amps out there? I know there are quad EL84 amps. I've always slightly preferred the tone of 6v6 to 6L6 tubes, and part of me thinks it would be nice to have a 6V6 amp that pushed 35-40 watts.

Orange Rockverb runs off a quad set of 6V6's, I'm sure there's a few more but it's 1:30 and I just got woken up by my son's scary nightmare so I can't think of them now. Good night....

The Jim Kelley FACS is one.

Some of the Mesas can do 6V6s. I think the Mark IV can, and I know the Heartbreakers can. Perhaps the Lonestar Classic. You'd have to check with them.

Before I got I to Mesa, I had several vintage Fenders, including a '65 Deluxe Reverb, '65 Bandmaster and a '64 Tremolux. The Tremolux in particular, with its deep 210 cab, was one of the best club-sized amps I've ever heard or used. Little less than the BM; little more than the DR. Right at that 35-watt mark with two 6L6s and a tube rectifier.

I have four Mesa with EL84s. Of those, the Mark V:25 and V:35 sound more like a big bottle amp than the Maverick or the DC-3. The V:35 is terrific. Really loving it on top of a Thiele cab.

Hi-Tone's 30w amps...they are Hi-Watt clones endorsed by the Reeves family.

Re: 4x 6v6 amps? Do they exist?

IIRC Bugera's Infinium series amps can run 6V6s, I've been considering getting a 1960 model and running it with them

Re: 4x 6v6 amps? Do they exist?

vox made one for a while, scott f has one. tb35 was the model i think. i really want to try one but have never seen one

Re: 4x 6v6 amps? Do they exist?

Rivera Venus 6 ...... 35 watts in either head or combo formats.

I've used 6V6's in my Mark IV and was pleased with the tone. Not as punchy as big bottles but very gig worthy and cranking.

I think Yellow Jackets exist to convert 6L6 amps to 6V6. I know they make them for running EL84s in amps designed for EL34s.....

I think it would be more of an issue of being able to set the bias, as 6V6's and 6L6's share the same pin pattern as I recall. They are both octal.

I wonder if my Super Sonic Twin could take 6v6 tubes...

How ya diggin the SS Twin these days Matt? I miss it at times. I'll bet that it would slay with my Friedman BE-OD in front of it. Certainly did with the Bogner Red. Sounded just like my old XTC. I'm sure that the Bogner La Grange would have slain in front of it as well. My only gripes about that amp were the fizzy drive channel, and ridiculous weight (which is why I had that road case with wheels made for it). I've been pondering picking up a SS 1x12 combo lately as a pedal platform. That or a Friedman Buxom Betty. But the Betty doesn't come cheap.

Back on topic... I dig 6V6s a lot. More than EL84s for sure.

Re: 4x 6v6 amps? Do they exist?

I'm liking it quite a bit! Of course since I picked up my 41st Amps Bayonet, it's been sitting largely unused. That was the plan though, I got it largely with the intent of it being a Pedal Steel amp, which it does great at. Fortunately that means I don't have to mess with the drive channel at all, because I agree, it's not one of the better features of that amp.

I will say I've been debating selling it due to the weight, but every time I compare it to my Cube 60 (which would replace it as my pedal steel amp), I remember why it's worth the weight! Not that the Cube 60 sounds bad, but the Twin sounds so much fatter.

Re: 4x 6v6 amps? Do they exist?

I know the Blue Angel did 2 6v6s and 4 EL84s, alone or together. I seem to be seeing 4 6v6 amps now than say, 10 years ago...what is that, like 35 watts?

Re: 4x 6v6 amps? Do they exist?

could be anywhere from 30-45w with a quad of 6v6's. i really want to check out one of those vox/bruno's but they are like unicorns around here
