4x10 cabinet.

I just bought a cheap PARK cabinet, which is a very good knock off of a 1960 Marshall, in fact it was made in England by marshall. Its virtually a 1960 cabinet, but the back is junk particlebaord and tonight i am going to cut a plywood back. Other than a lesser grade tolex covering, i got basically a 1960 cabinet I got for for 100 bucks used. Unfortunately the cabinet is loaded with some mediocre Celestions which i am also yanking tonight. What i am considering doing is cutting new baffles and making a 4x10 guitar cabinet, especially since I already have a pair of Emininence Ramrod 10's.. I need opinions on anyone who has used a 4X10 vis a vie a 4X12 for guitar in a closed back cabinet. I could use the cabinet with fender or British amps.

Re: 4x10 cabinet.

You'll most likely lose low mids, but your low end will tighten up and you'll get some more sparkle from the amp.

Personally, what I would do would be to make a baffle board with a pair of 10's up top for sparkle and a pair of 12's on the bottom for your beef.

Re: 4x10 cabinet.

sounds perfect. will do. thnx! 2x12 Emi ramrods up top and 2X12 celestion greenbacks below. Yowza!

My friend actually did this a while back, but he took it one step further. He did the bottom hald as a sealed back and the top half as an open back. I don't recall exactly how he did it, but I imagine he needed to do plenty of internal mods.

yea, i dont know how that could be done since the whole cabinet is open inside. It would have to be divided and i wouldnt be able to do that.

I've got a Crate 410 and I love it. It's got a great sound.

Tight low end with sparkle is a great way to summarize the tone.
I'm glad to see this thread because I was considering a speaker swap towards something a bit more British sounding.

Re: 4x10 cabinet.

Great buy ... those Park Amps and cabs are said to be VERY collectable now so don't disguard the other back if it's the original one. Sounds like a cool idea ref mixing 10's with 12's!
