5 Guitars, 5 Pickups, You Put Them In Order From Your Favorite To Least Favorite

Re: 5 Guitars, 5 Pickups, You Put Them In Order From Your Favorite To Least Favorite

LOL....No, I didn't do that. They're all different pickups.

Same guitar? Edit- I am a moron.

I also will have to give a listen when I get access to my good headphones.

I was really hoping the pickup room know it all heavy hitters would join in on this.

Re: 5 Guitars, 5 Pickups, You Put Them In Order From Your Favorite To Least Favorite

I think I'm going to redo all of these again tonight and shorten them. I'll keep them in the same order, but do a quick clean thing, a heavy riff, and then some crap lead playing stuff. I'll try and knock them down to about a minute or so.

Re: 5 Guitars, 5 Pickups, You Put Them In Order From Your Favorite To Least Favorite

I just listened on my iphone, probably not the best way to really decipher anything, but I'm posting before reading anyone else's responses, to make sure I give at least a somewhat legit analysis.

Based on the style being played I'm going with 5 as my overall favorite. Then 1, 2, 4, & 3, in that order. 1 & 4 sound better to me on the rhythm parts than they do on leads, 2 & 3 the opposite, 3 sounding really good on the lead parts, but the chuggier rhythm part sounds really bad. 5 sounded pretty good everywhere, so it's my winner.

That said, nothing sticks out as bad anywhere other than the junn-junns on sample 3, and I hear a lot of the amp in all of those clips.

I'm interested to see what we've got here, a couple of those sound really JB-ish.

edit: ****, I just saw you're gonna redo all of them.

Re: 5 Guitars, 5 Pickups, You Put Them In Order From Your Favorite To Least Favorite

Okay - listened to all of them a bunch.

Overall:

3
1
5
2
4

For leads I like 3
For Rhythm I like 1

Overall, I don't know that I could hear that much of a difference. I think 5 had some more booty and cut. Maybe that's a Custom. 2 or 4 might be a Jazz.

I took the advice of some forum friends (thank you by the way) and I shortened the clips a tad, and did a clean channel tone as well.

I will also post this in the first post.

Re: 5 Guitars, 5 Pickups, You Put Them In Order From Your Favorite To Least Favorite

#1 seemed to have the most harmonically rich tone of the 5
#2 seemed to have the tightest low end... 3,4 and 5 didn't seem that different at all.

That was on the speakers on my iMac. I'll put the tracks up on my monitors and give it another listen.

Great comparison BTW, I could effortlessly switch back and forth between clips. Super job.

Thanks, zen.:)

Re: 5 Guitars, 5 Pickups, You Put Them In Order From Your Favorite To Least Favorite

I'll probably give this another week before I let anyone know what the pickups are. However, a fun guessing game could be...............Do you think you can guess what any of these pickups are? That could be fun. :) Give it a go if you think you can.

At least the wood won't affect the differences. I Learn't this today after being led astray for all these years.
Thank you Ariarse.

Nice! LOVE the new version. Definitely an improvement.

And I'm STILL going with:

4
2
1
5
3

Gonna even go out on a limb and say 3 is an Epiphone pup or some other stock pup. :D

Before reading anymore comments, I listened to the new clips. I decided to change my list. So now its:
4
2
1
5
3
Funny that we have the same list.

Re: 5 Guitars, 5 Pickups, You Put Them In Order From Your Favorite To Least Favorite

I'm not gonna analyze the sounds or guess what the pickups are. Just listen, pick and wait for the announcement. This is already fun, Jolly. Thanks!

Me still ...
3

I'm not surprised at all. They are afraid that they "won't nail it" and ruin their rep.

That's a shame - they don't get it. We are all different, we all have ears. Pick. So what if you are a long time anti-PG guy and pick a PG? Doesn't mean squat. Just means that Jolly's guitar, plus a PG, plus 11 Rack, plus Jolly's fingers did something you liked.

Doesn't mean you are wrong, doesn't mean the same stuff would actually work for you.

I could probably (and still might) pick a favorite for every phrase; Chords, leads, chug, riffs. I'll give the new ones a listen when I can.

This. That's kinda where I was going with what I listed. I see #5 isn't very popular, but I felt that it had the better performance in each phase, not necessarily the best in any of them individually. I'll listen to the new clips here in a minute.

Re: 5 Guitars, 5 Pickups, You Put Them In Order From Your Favorite To Least Favorite

Heh, keeping my order the same (5, 1, 2, 4, 3), and I'm even gonna take a stab at naming them knowing that my pickup rep is probably gonna be obliterated.

1. DD
2. JB
3. CC
4. Custom
5. No idea, I think I like it, Dimebucker?
