Anyone played both the 50 watt and the 100? Ive played 50. I was wondering if there is much/if any tonal difference between them? I figure they are prolly similar and the 100 is overkill...? I like the headphone jack on the fiddy.
Just wonderin. Thanks
I have played both and my first impression was that the 100w sounded better at music store volume which is a little louder than you would play at home I suppose. I went back and did a side-by-side and still think the 100w sounds better. I like the vibe from the 100w version, but I don't get that vibe from the 50w. It's like there's something missing. Don't get me wrong, it sounds great and if I wasn't fortunate enough to afford the amps I have, it would definitely be a contender. However, if I had to choose between the 50w & 100w, I would choose the 100w even for low volume playing.
Rly good music store? Or veeeeery cop-luvin' neighbours? To me, home volume is about 3x louder than music store volume
I prefer the 100w. Its less compressed overall.
However I have heard from various techs and general hearsay that the 50w has a better designed circuit layout and is more reliable in general.

...difference? Honestly confused now
I only opened the amps up a little bit, so I don't know whether they compress at higher volumes or get trebly or whatever happens when they are played very loud. Therefore, I was only giving my opinion as to what they would sound like for home/studio use and not live playing.
Uhm, NO, on the contrary, big renowned industry standard heads have a tendency to "open up", even out, and sound better at loud volumes... Which is why they're so widely respected and used.
It aint a freakin Squier Frontman 15R, y'know??
OK expert guy, thanks for your valuable input in this thread. Wow! You seem so knowledgeable, maybe even sage-like. You must be an incredible player. Please tell us where can we find your audio clips or videos so we can have the opportunity to admire your playing. Ah, by the way... I read your first post and was wondering how you were able to discern so much having never played either yourself. Please don't get too technical or most of us will not be able to understand the complexities of amp engineering over the past few decades that developed the "big renowned industry standard heads."
Sheeeet, are you TRYING to get me to stop agreeong with your conclusions? Cuz, initially, I was... Agreeing.
Big heads of a design (well, "family") that, in many genres, is used by 50+% of gigging bands WILL sound as good or better at high volumes than at low levels, like, duh. Thas why ppl USE them. Live. Loudly. Even without ever getting the green light or stamp of approval from you.
