5150/Mesa 2x12 Clip

Re: 5150/Mesa 2x12 Clip

I like the sound but would suggest using about half the gain you're using or using a boost, least when recording. I love my 5150, and you make me want a mesa cab!

I had the gain on about 1.8 for that clip. I'm loving this Mesa cab too. Thanks for checking it out!

Jeeze dude really? Must be the OD, either way......

The gain on the OD pedal was on 0, I use it as a clean boost with the gain all the way off, volume all the way up, and the tone knob around 10 o'clock. I don't think it has too much gain at all, but everyone has different ears.

Re: 5150/Mesa 2x12 Clip

Good stuff, but I like the Bogner cab sound better, maybe its the 2 vs 4X12 thing though ...

Well, it's a totally different guitar as well as different settings and a different tuning. The Bogner cab is the better cab IMO, but I can't afford to keep it now, and I really do like the Mesa a lot too.

Re: 5150/Mesa 2x12 Clip

Probably a better tone than BDM had on that record.

Still clouded and a bit fuzzy, sounds like your mids are too low/bass too high, presence/high end is a bit on the fizzy side, as well - gives the impression of too much gain. I find it hard to believe you have the pre gain on 1.8... I actually find that completely unbelievable, since I get a less saturated tone without a boost and the gain on 4.

My settings were...

Lead Channel, High Gain Input
Pre Gain - 1.8
Low - 5
Mid - 7
High - 3.5
Post Gain - 1
Resonance - 4
Presence - 4

Boosted with an OD808. Gain all the way down, volume all the way up, tone on about 10 o'clock.

Re: 5150/Mesa 2x12 Clip

I'm starting to see people use this setting more and more with a lot of mids and less highs. It seems to bring out the sound a little more.

Re: 5150/Mesa 2x12 Clip

Yeah I usually dial back the treble and presence a good bit when I record. Seems to sound better that way IMO.
