’53 Style Tapped JB for Tele®...

Re: ’53 Style Tapped JB for Tele®...

Re: ’53 Style Tapped JB for Tele®...

Is that neck pickup listed on the CS part of the website? Also, I think this might the screamin' Tele set I have been searching for. I was even thinking about getting a set of Texas Specials. I heard they were hot in a bad way though. I want hot but with twang....

One more time with feeling:

"Just bite the bullet and get it over with: call MJ and order a set!" :lmao:

I didn't see the neck pup listed. I didn't see the '53 tapped listed until recently, but I hadn't checked in a while.

the full bridge will give you hot, and the tapped position will twang .. that said, I think I go for more of a blues tone than you do

you might also want to consider a set of CS Broadcasters. I have some pics of mine here.

and I'm not trying to confuse things, but rather get you what you want ... the tapped set can sound a little raw and NASTY -- in a good way :)

when you talk about twang, I usually think more of a little lower output, through a clean amp ... even though a lot of great country players play early 50s teles

Not exactly on topic, but I have a set of Texas Specials in a 52 RI (Japanese) and while they are not as twangy as some pickups they aren't completely lacking in the twang department. It may be my guitar, though. The neck is great and the middle is very full and bright, nice for jangle stuff played clean and does a nice Keith Richards thing with a bit of gain. The bridge gets a bit harsh, though, which is why I'm going to try something else in that guitar. Not too bright so much as clank I don't like. I would heartily recommend the neck pickup but if I was going to try something on a budget I'd try a Broadcaster or something like that in the bridge. That CS pickup looks nice, obviously.

jeremy (admins) told me he has one in his Esquire and it is the absolute best sounding pup he's ever owned. I haven't tried one yet.

Okay, let's say I have Seymour and/or MJ make me one. I even have them make me a neck model (without the cover, BTW). I want a Strat pickup in the middle position. I wonder what Strat pickup would match with them....

Something like an Antiquity Surfer would be my suggestion...although the Ant Texas Hot might have less string pull.

I was thinking the Ant Surfer too. I like a higher output pickup in that position because I can lower it a bit more and it won't get in my right hand's way...

Right. But the Surfer isn't really a high output pickup. It's like a '62 Strat pickup which are stronger than 50's pickups but still vintage in output.

One reason Tele's sustain better than Strats, IMO, is because Teles don't have the string pull of a middle pickup.

Re: ’53 Style Tapped JB for Tele®...

Sorry for bumping, just a little question: would this pickup be good for hard rock styles? Or is it just bluesy?

Re: ’53 Style Tapped JB for Tele®...

Re: ’53 Style Tapped JB for Tele®...

its a single coil tele pup, if your amp has the goods this pup will deliver. into a cranked marshall this rocks.

i do have one in my esquire and it is fantastic. when we made the forumcaster, this is what mj made to put in it for seymour. it is my favorite single coil bridge pup hands down. i have even had mj make me a strat version so i could use it in other guitars.

butch if you are going to spend the money on a custom neck and bridge pup, i would pony up the extra to have a full set made with the strat pup in the middle too. mj has magic fingers and seymour might wind the bridge himself!

BTW, what 'regular' model can it be compared with? I know, it's a stupid question, but nevertheless... Give mi a hint

Re: ’53 Style Tapped JB for Tele®...

I am getting one of these for the bridge of my strat. Lew loves it, Jeremy has called it heavan in a tele pick up after all this i am sold on it. Looks like i have got enough saved up to get one!! I am thinking with my roadking set to vintage channel, with variac set to spongy and set for the EL34s i think it will be awesome.

Re: ’53 Style Tapped JB for Tele®...

Re: ’53 Style Tapped JB for Tele®...

take the versitility and concept of the hot tele lead but start with an antiquity tele bridge pup then spin the extra wire on to give a fatter hotter tone.

Re: ’53 Style Tapped JB for Tele®...

I don't know if this is the same as a CS Hot for Tele Tapped or not. The specs appear to be about the same. If it is, it's the best single coil bridge pickup I've ever used...although I wound up putting mine in my Strat!

MJ wound mine. And wound me a matching "Tele ala Strat" neck pickup.

Lew

Lew, how do you balance your CS Tele Tapped (A2) bridge pickup with the Surfers (A5) on neck and middle? I have the same set in my strat.
Thanks

Re: ’53 Style Tapped JB for Tele®...

Re: ’53 Style Tapped JB for Tele®...

i have surfers neck and middle with a strat version of this pup in the bridge, same specs, magnets, baseplate etc... just strat bobbins, the different bridge is still a factor though

i dont run a tone control on the bridge pup ala old school fender, just a push/pull to tap the pup and i think it works great as a set. the notch tone is better with the tapped output but even on full output it sounds really nice, just a little more honky and fat. are you having trouble with balance or ???

Jeremy,

Mine is also the the srat version. I had trouble mixing the A2 bridge pickup with the A5 Surfers. But I think my mistake was to focus on the bridge (tapped) +middle position when adjusting the bridge pickup height. How do adjust the pickups heights of your custom set?

Thank you

Re: ’53 Style Tapped JB for Tele®...

Re: ’53 Style Tapped JB for Tele®...

i set the bridge pup at full output first, then listen to the tapped bridge, then set the neck so its a little stronger than the tapped output but not as strong as the full. i set the middle pup last and kinda find the best balance between the neck/mid and mid alone. i usually like the tapped bridge/mid volume the lowest so i get a nice rhythm tone that isnt too up in the mix
