59 neck eith A4 or no A4 in a Strat pickguard

I have a 59 neck model in a Strat pickguard in the neck position. The body wood is Alder, and neck is Maple, with Rosewood fingerboard. Would it be wise to swap out the A5 manet in the 59n for aa A4 magnet? This would increase the mids quite a bit from the A5 magnet. I play Late '70's Hard Rock to '80's Hair Metal and want a dark, but not muddy sustain for single note runs and lead solo's. Thanks.

Welcome! I really like an A4 mag in the 59n, and sometimes in the bridge model, too. I've had one in the neck of one of my LPs for a long time. It bumps up the mids and softens the bass and treble.

My favorite neck p'up is a Seth Lover with an A4 magnet, preferibly with no covers.

An A5 59n sounds great in mahogany. Maybe by putting in an A4 in Alder it would even out.
