78 Model Custom Shop - newb questions

I am assembling a frankenstrat (northern ash) with a new Original Floyd Rose.
I assume I should get a Trembucker?
I assume I should get the Short Legs?
Do I need the Wax Potted to prevent squeals?
Single Conductor?

How long is the waiting period?
How do I place an order?

Thanks for any advice!

Wax potting will reduce the microphonic tendencies. Brian May actuall potted his in a form of epoxy called Araldite.
Trembucker is a good choice, tho' there are others. Find sound clips and reviews to compare. I like to split the coils to get different tonal palettes..

If you are getting the Floyd, go with the trembucker. If you get it the way if comes, you shouldn't have to worry about potting it. Decide if you want the standard lead wire or the 4-con so you can have more wiring options.

To order one, call the toll free #, and follow the prompts to the custom shop. Waiting times will vary on the volume. From my experience, its always been worth the wait.

I don't know how you're guitar is routed but you can get a normal spaced 78 and tilt the pickup on the bass side to get the EVH thing going on, which it totally sounds like you're going for. I'd get it wax potted too. Eddie's original pickup he had was from an es-355 and he took it out and potted it, before having duncan wind him a new one.

Yes, EVH thing.
It is a Musikraft Franky body, and the Floyd will be non-floating, so I assume I need to get the short legged pickup?

Well, Eddie`s was originally a GIbson pickup with long legs, but short legs will generally give you more flexibility in installation by being a more universal fit, especially on guitars that don`t have the rout deepened for the legs.

That said, Franky itself has long Legs and is simply screwed directly to the wood with no springs (meaning no height adjustment), but I could be wrong on that, memory`S not what it used to be.... If it is however the case then I would expect a long leg without springs to be "ideal" for a proper replica.

Re: 78 Model Custom Shop - newb questions

I would go with the trembucker as well with a Floyd. I'm a two conductor fan personally but I see no need to get 4 on a PAF pickup.

Now I will buck the trend and say go unpotted. I have an unpotted 78 made with Seth parts, and a 78TB and neither has microphonic issues.

You too? lol. I have a Frankenstrat body on order from Musikraft too since I already have a Warmoth neck and EVH Frankenstrat humbucker I'm not using. But to be true to the replica, you'd want the regular spaced pickup, and to tilt the bass side just how EVH did. Long mounting legs too

If you're mounting it straight to the wood, like EVH, then you want long legs. That's what the Musikraft bodies are routed for. If you want to be authentic, you want Gibson/standard spacing. If you're not too worried about that, go F-spaced.

As far as the spacing, too... If you're building this authentically, Eddie angled the pickup, so getting the E's wasn't a problem.

Back in the day I was putting a Gibson humbucker on my Fender lead II. I had it routed for the floyd. I wanted to make my own Frankie.Yea I know would have been cheaper to use a strat to begin with in the long run. Did not realize what it was going to cost. I was about 17 and not to smart. My friend who was getting ready to put the pickup in the guitar took the pickup, held it out in front of him(picture like someone holding a sandwich) and bent the pickup very slightly just enough to fit the f-spacing. The pickup did not have a cover on it.He said its real easy to ruin the pickup that way. But it worked.
