80's Kramers... Just slay...

Re: 80's Kramers... Just slay...

Not for my back, it isn't. Heavy and dense are no-nos for any wood, plywood or not, for me. Light, resonant, and under 7lbs is what I look for. Never tried a plywood guitar that light. I can't imagine glue is good for tone, anyway.

Yet, multi-piece necks are considered good. And IMHO neck contributes much more to the tone than body.

Re: 80's Kramers... Just slay...

I had a couple Focus 1000s, an earlier one with the 1 pc neck, hockey stick hs, and top mount OFR, then the later with the 3 pc neck, pointy hs, and recessed OFR. It was just an attempt to recapture the first, which had been stolen. The later 3 pc neck had pretty pronounced shoulders that made it uncomfortable for my hands.

Somewhere in there, I had a Striker, which was ok, even if it was plywood. I don't remember much about it except disliking the mid pup, like all Strats.

multi piece necks are stable and stiff alright but im not sure i love the tone they impart

I don't know what the argument for plywood is here. You might like the tone, and that is cool. But if is a piece of wood (or pieces glued together) is too heavy for me, I'd never even get to the part where I plug it in. I simply don't care what it sounds like.

Yeah. that was a Focus 6000. I got it dirt cheap, it was like new. I put in upgraded pups. Duncan C8 in the bridge and Dimarzios (can't recall model) neck and middle. The guitar had an amazing woody tone that sounded like a couple of my fav 80s solos. I really regret having sold that one.
