9-strings spotted at NAMM

Re: 9-strings spotted at NAMM

Didn't Fender make a 7 string Strat back in the 80's?

Yep. The Alex Gregory model.

Re: 9-strings spotted at NAMM

Actually, the more I think about it, the more I'd like to try out an 8 string. For my more spaced out, looping and ambient type playing it could be fun! (And I'd probably sound horrible playing it! ;))

Re: 9-strings spotted at NAMM

We're not ready for 9 strings yet. I just got an 8 string, and right now I'm having a hard time finding a set of strings for it with the low string long enough. In addition, you need a properly voiced amp. I'm looking for a distortion pedal that can handle my 8 string. the 8 string sounds great clean, but with overdrive it just gets noisy. Maybe I'll try a big muff

Re: 9-strings spotted at NAMM

Fark all this, i'm gonna go the opposite way. One string, 167 frets, 48" scale length.

Ya can buy guitars with as many strings as ya want. Ya can't buy imagination, and it's THAT that seems to be in short supply.

I hear there are moves afoot to replace all orchestral instruments with just three .... one woodwind, one brass, one string instrument. Each one will cover all frequencies from subsonic to ultrasonic. All will have incredible upper-fret access.

Ok, kill me now please.

Re: 9-strings spotted at NAMM

I know we're kind of new to this arena but is it tuned in fourths as follows?
7 - B
8 - F# (Whole step above Bass Guitar's E)
9 - C# (Whole step above 5-String Bass B)

Shiiiiii-

I'd have a ton of fun on it.

Some of ya'll need to stop letting the existence of a guitar you don't like wad up your panties.
