A/B box needed

For the last few years I've been making due with my 2555 and using my guitar's volume or a volume pedal for a semi-clean sound. Lately my band has started writing more material that requires a really good clean sound (synth-era Rush influenced) and my 2555 isn't cutting it for clean. I'm not a big fan of multi-channel amps, and I love my OD sound, so a different amp is out of the question.

Luckily I scored an H&K Edition Tube 20 last week and it has an incredible clean tone (every bit as good as my old Triamp Mk. I), so now I need an A/B box. I won't be using both amps at the same time, so I don't necessarily need the ability to do so. My primary concern is that it won't load down my guitar as my brother tried out a Radial Big Shot to switch his 2203 and Mesa .50 cal, and it was like throwing a blanket over both amps. I know my best option would be to just cough up the $200 for a Switchbone, but I don't really want to spend that much. Does anyone have any ideas for an A/B box that will let me switch between these two amps without loading down my signal?

Thanks

the old way was to ground lift an amp..... not that i promote such a thing as safety always comes first... basicly you get a ground lift adapter from a hardware store and it basicly turns your 3 prong amp cord into a 2..... that way when you are using both amps with a standard A/B Box there is no noise.... The down side is it is more risky to your health....

I would say get a good A/B box like the Switchbone nad be done with it....

I've got a whirlwind A/B that I used and I didn't think it crushed my tone. Try one of those. And if you like it I'll sell you mine. I don't run two half-stacks anymore.

I printed off the schematic and I'll be building one shortly. I also found all the parts I need to build an XLR load box from smallbearelec.com so this really has been a find.

Thanks!

Radial Big shot. Not as fancy as a switchbone but does the job perfectly. There is a group lift switch...no noise and I run 2 marshalls overdriven together. I can also switch between the 2 without noise.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I've tried the Big Shot and I thought it sounded terrible. I only hope that the Fulltone sounds better, otherwise I'll just have to bite the bullet and get a Switchbone.

startouch makes really good stuff. i have an a/b/y box but they also make an a/b one.

I scored a Morley at Encore Music in Minneapolis for $29 yesterday, so I'm good for now. It isn't 100% transparent (maybe 98%), but it does sound far better than the Bigshot. I guess I'll use it for a while and decide if the Swichbone is worth the extra $200.
