Blake, those frets look usable to me. However, they may not be comfortable for your style of play.
Also - ebony fretboards always chip during refrets. Why not wait until the whole project is complete and playable before making that plunge?
My only concern is how incredibly uneven the fretboard is. Even if the frets were amazing and all the way there I don't know that I could get it playable with the board like that.
Probably smarter to try first though and I can shave that all down later if need be.
yessir! the big suckers. Ah man I was puckering hard with every turn of the tuners and little creak of the strings getting it up to full tension. Looks solid as it gets now though!
I've got a pair and I set them in there. Seemed mostly ok I guess. Just hard to know without fitting everything just how high you will need the pickups to sit.
Got some binding on the headstock this weekend. About done with the headstock now. Couple small body binding repairs, filling some holes and then sloooowly chipping off all the old bad clear
haha actually yes, mostly. Chipping off the old clear is a real mental battle. Hard to not just go crazy and leave a ton of scratches. Back is almost done. Front is about 1/3rd of the way there.
The sides are going to be the worst. Just awkward to get at and the nooks and crannies in the binding make it extra wonky.
