A better JVM demo.

Re: A better JVM demo.

I like the **** out of that!

How do you get the guitars so "out in front?"

Mine sound lost somewhere in the backgound.

Re: A better JVM demo.

Do you dual/quad track? Is there enough 'room' in the other instruments for the guitars to sound? It's all about giving the instruments their own space. You'll notice the bass guitar is kind of loud but doesn't interfere with the guitars.

2 tracks at the moment, but it looks like I'm gonna try 4 tomorrow.

Re: A better JVM demo.

that was cool, sort of reminds me of mustaine's guitar sound as of late (I think he's back with marshalls).

Re: A better JVM demo.

Darken that up a bit and you'd have very similar to the (highly studio engineered) guitar tones on Piece of Mind. Got that wah like midrange going on.

Which channel/mode was that on the JVM?

Re: A better JVM demo.

Not bad, but something in the high mids just doesn't gel with me. Slightly too percussive and harsh.
Perhaps a tad more low mids would be nice.
Apart from that, you're very much on track to getting some great sounds out of it. It's obviously a great amp with tons of potential

Re: A better JVM demo.

I have a feeling it's actually the mid range of the bass guitar, but apart from that it's probably just 'my sound' and unless I changed my tastes on a subconscious level I'll probably always come back to something resembling that.

Even if by chance I dialled in a sound where everybody else was saying 'now you've got it, that's perfect, it's ideal' it might seem odd or out of place to me. That's the one limiting factor of home recording and not having an engineer at a studio even with the best equipment. Are you talking about low-mids in the gain stages or post eq? Or can't you tell?

Re: A better JVM demo.

Post EQ, since I don't imagine you're going to be able to specifically dial in frequencies on the amp itself :laugh2:
The slight harshness I'm hearing is definitely the guitars. It's just this frequency spike somewhere in the higher mids that's kinda a tiny bit grating, in what is otherwise a really nice sounding tone.
The bass guitar isn't really up front enough to be causing that and understandably it's insanely hard to get a ultra slammin' bass tone in an average home studio environment

Re: A better JVM demo.

Ah I think I see what you mean now. Are you talking about that very slightly scratchy sound mostly apparent in the palm mutes?

Re: A better JVM demo.

Petrovsk,

I haven't re-recorded it (can't at the moment anyway because all my equipment is moving) but I spent a while with the settings and I managed to get rid of the high mid spike.

It was a combination of just a tiny bit too much gain (the JVMs have a ridiculous amount of preamp gain which can get a bit buzzy if it's not perfectly dialled in) and the relation between the treble/mid and presence needed fine tuning, but it's near perfect now. Must remember to write the settings down ^_^

The C83 mod takes care of that quite nicely.
