lol that guy is such a total ebay 'slickster' - he uses so many techniques to try and sell just a plain ordinary capacitor, he could probably sell glasses to a blind man :laugh2:

"..unlike those foreign made capacitors..." - what's wrong with high quality capacitors made in England or Germany (LCR/F&T)? Either he's trying to imply they're made somewhere they're not or he's trying to play on people's xenophobia.

I've just replaced some Ruby caps that went bad after only being a year old with high quality F&T ones, I like the F&T as they look vintage and blue. Most late 60's Marshall's I've seen with caps on top had short ones for the screens/mains and a tall one for the PI cap, so I might go with one of these ARS for the PI cap when I replace that. Thanks for sharing John!

One of my many techie tube amp book says that when it comes to can caps, bigger is better,as it's capable of storing more electrical energy....Not sure how true this is? The caps look cool also and they are taller and longer like the Dalys I pulled years ago

This may be a stupid question. Are NOS LCR caps in the 50/50@500v now collectible?

Probably yes, but only by morons. Caps are the one component that age regardless of whether they are used in an amp or not. Old electrolytics just dry out. Period. So you'd have to be a dope to spend big bucks on NOS filter caps.

But I'm sure there are people who do it every day.

I agree with you about 99%. There are a couple of exceptions. I know a few folks who rebuild vintage radios. Since some of these have exposed components, and they want them to work and appear period correct, they pay big bucks for some of the original parts. The difference is, they then "gut" those big caps and carefully place modern components "in the can". Fortunately, newer caps are always physically smaller, so they fit just fine, and the old radios appear to work like new. They're pretty cool. ;)

btw John; I wish I had 1/10th of your gumption. :D Those caps look great.

old filter caps can be reformed though, if they're leak free they should be ok for a restoration.
