A Gibson Gem just went for $1080! Time to sell mine?

Re: A Gibson Gem just went for $1080! Time to sell mine?

To people who don't know what I"m talking about, this is what it looks like. One of the prettiest guitars Gibson ever made. Super thin nitro finish (mine's wearing off and checking everywhere).

Mine has a different stop piece, and zebra pups instead of Gold. Identical otherwise. Actually, mine has Grover tuners and straplocks.

Don't get your hopes up, stupid people pay way too much for things on Ebay all the time. This doesn't raise the market value.

Every one I've seen has sold for between $700-$900, one went BIN for $950. A few months ago, one went BIN $1200, but that was bone mint perfect, with the P90s.

It fluctuates, and I'm never going to be in the market to sell. So I'm not worried about that, it's just cool to see how much people are paying.

For instance, a Gibson Falcon (for which I paid $250) went for $800 two days ago. Same condition as mine. Crazy. Falcons are even weirder, I've seen low end they go for like $300, but lots go for like $600-$700.

Consumers are weird!

That's a cool looking Les Paul. I like it a whole lot better than that BFG.

I'd probably rather have a Goldtop, but I like that too. Did they come in other colors?

Yeah, hold on:

Bad pic, but you get the idea. The red and blue (Ruby and Sapphire) are absolutely gorgeous. I've seen Topaz I didn't like, and some I have (like Aceman's). Emerald is pretty in the right light, but too dark. Amethyst defeats the purpose.

But yeah, this pic is bad, way too dark. They're all much prettier.

Here's mine, but imagine a zebra neck, and a zebra bridge. See the checking? Tons of short little lines. It's worse now, but in 15 years, the whole finish is gonna be entirely checked and destroyed. I can't wait! :)

Sounds like you're not going to sell it, but in case you even think about it, DON'T! A few years ago I got one of those SG faded guitars for cheap and ended up selling to make money off of it. That's the only Gibson I owned.

No I'm not going to. I'm a softie; a sentimental, sweet, sensitive guy. I can't sell my first love for some money! :)

Cool story actually. I went to get a hard shell case for my Green Buddy a month ago, and at all three shops I went to, all three owners wanted to buy it. One guy offered me $1100 after he sat down and played with it, but I turned him down (obviously). He thought he could sell it for about $1500, market it as some old long lost jewel.

But yeah, all three owners thought it was one of the prettiest and most unique things they'd seen in a while, so that was cool! Made my day.

Dude! Don't scare me like that. NEVER get rid of that Paul. They are not investments. They are friends, partners, and pieces of your soul!

And they both meet Booby test requirements, I imagine. They are priceless. Not for sale. Not now. Not ever. Don't make me come over there and smack you up!

I'll have to post some photo's of my GEM - Good ones. You guys just have no idea how awesome the subtle flame down the middle is!

I like those gems. Love the burst one. A dealer in Sydney, Australia is selling the whole set as one lot...

You really think I'd ever sell it! Like I said, HELL no! :D It's too cool. I'm just happy that they're starting to catch on a little more. I'd love to see a good pic of yours, I'm not sure I ever have seen a really good pic. And booby test? She likes the Green Buddy and the strat. She loves the blue and the inlays on the Gibson, hates the gold and cream. She wants white and chrome. But I'm keeping it.

All 5 in one lot!? How much?

My first "real" Gibson LP was a Arctic White Studio with ebony board. I wish I would have kept that. Your doing the right thing by not selling Big Al!

Re: A Gibson Gem just went for $1080! Time to sell mine?

Wow I love those Arctic ones. Why'd you sell it?

I guess if someone needs money then I could understand selling. But MI get some sort of bond with my "first" guitars (my very first one, my first Gibson, my first Fender, etc.). Don't intend to sell them.

Amps however I get no bond with, except my recent Gibson ones. I'm in love with them.

I used the proceeds towards my R8 LP.
