Re: A (hopefully) Fun Survey/Question

OK, I found this excerpt from an interview conducted via E-mail on October 3, 2001 with Norman Greenbaum:

How did you get that guitar tone in the title track?

NG - "I played a Fender Telecaster through a Fender tube amp. A friend custom
built the fuzz box, just a small something or other, into the body of the guitar with a switch. I didn't slit the speakers. I fingerpicked and used lots of reverb.
There really wasn't much else done in the mix."

Huh, that's cool! Thanks Tex!

Re: A (hopefully) Fun Survey/Question

Chuck Schuldiners lead chorus effect...I still think that sounds so ****ing rad with him, but I'll never really use it as much as he did, it's his trademark for leads IMO.

And God Forbids album Gone Forever...I heard that the day I fell in love with my XXX. Best recorded tone I've ever heard. Guess what they used? ;)

*EDIT* I really like Zakk Wylde's rythm tone, too much wah on leads...but the rythm is ****ing rad.

I'm not sure if you know this or not, but Terry Kath played through a Bogen CHB100 (old 100watt PA) exclusively........ amazingly enough, you can find them from time to time on eBay for around $30...... killer tones from a rather unusual source...

Re: A (hopefully) Fun Survey/Question

Brian may- the most inspiring tone ever, he's the king of the vocalized guitar solo, I mean who DOESN'T sing that bohemian rhapsody guitar solo...
billy gibbsons- the song I'm bad, I'm nation wide has one of the best guitar solo tones because it goes from a telecaster, main one, to a les paul and strat duking it out it seems. that little duel makes me so proud of my les paul and also makes me want a strat real bad, I've got the tele and the paul down, all i need now is the strat...

Re: A (hopefully) Fun Survey/Question

Oops. Forgot to include Mr. May. But he had several mentions already, so I guess it wasn't TOO bad...

Re: A (hopefully) Fun Survey/Question

*Aerosmith "Sweet Emotion" (love the rock groove when the song kicks)
*Steve Vai "For the Love of God" (this is God's lead tone, just. so. incredible.)
*Van Halen "1" album (hot rodded plexis all the way)
*Goo Goo Dolls "Long Way Down", "Naked" (by far my FAVORITE tones of all time)... just smooth, thick, rich Marshall crunch and articulate distortion... nice medium gain (not too light that it's wimpy, yet not overbearing or aggressive)... it's JUST right IMHO.
*Jimi Hendrix "All Along the Watchtower"
*Kenny Wayne Shepherd (KILLER blues tone, probably due to his Fuchs Overdrive Special) "Deja Voodoo"
*For cleans, I think it's hard to find better than U2 with their Vox AC-30.
