A little dissapointed in the Fender Custom Vibrolux Reverb

Re: A little dissapointed in the Fender Custom Vibrolux Reverb

Cory, try the EH12AX7 in the V1 instead of a JJ, you should immediately notice a lot more sparkle and jangle from your C30.

The JJ's sound great, but they are a little darker.

Where do I get this from?

Go and look around for a 1968 or 69 Bandmaster reverb head...the 1967 and eariler Bandmasters were non reverb amps but in 1968 CBS decided to offer both a Bandmaster and a Bandmaster Reverb. Get a Bandmaster Reverb head and a Bandmaster/Bassman cab then spend the time and money to get the head running 100%...cap job, tubes, needed repairs, etc and drop a killer set of speakers in the cab .

Not to hijack the thread, but I have a '68 SF Bandmaster Reverb...I got it from the original owner. It has never had a cap job; it's never even been opened. What speakers would you suggest for the amp?

Cory, I have to admit I've bought some newer Fender amps and usually end up dissapointed with them. Puckboy99 sold me a BF Bandmaster (love those Bandmasters) and I couldn't be happier with it. You can get the amp head for a decent price from Ebay but be careful of fakes/modded heads.

You can get the EH preamp tubes from almost any of the online vendors like thetubestore.com, and most repair shops.

get your hands on a Bandmaster/bassman 2x12 cab and put a pair of Celestions in it...one vintage 30 and one G12H30 and you'll be pretty happy.

Amp sold for not a dime less than I paid for it! :6:  :smokin:

I have to say though, this experience really made me appreciate my Classic 30 a lot more. I'm going to try some more tube swaps and see what happens. :)
