I'm gonna give this solo contest a try soon. I suck at playing lead though so it is gonna take me a bit to write a lead haha!
Single humbuckers are illegal?Kamanda I totally missed this whole thing and just saw it today actually. Was nice to hear everyone play and I was impressed with all the different takes on that backing track. I'll look forward to your next one, and while I don't do a lot of clean stuff I'll see once, maybe if all else I'll get in on the first track. Plus Clint said single humbuckers are illegal which kinda sucks.
The whole point of this is to have fun and hopefully improve your playing, so no judgement here!
This one may be a tad disjointed, but I am trying to add a little variety, so a little clean section to start, then to a rockin minor section, then flip it to major just for kicks.
Well, I'm trying in vain to tolex the cab I just made.. (one failed attempt/wasted tolex under my belt already :grumble: ) ..so I thought I'd take a break & give this a go instead :bigthumb:
It's a cool backing track Kamanda ...pretty fun to solo over, though I ****ed up a bit here & there
All my axe's are setup for/tuned to Eb ...so I used my new Donner harmonizer pedal to match my tuning to the backing track (hopefully haha)...without actually messing with my setup. Played my Ibby S-540 LTD with my Biyang Metal End distortion box.
Dude, can I just say you seem like a totally cool human? Unreal chops and an even better attitude
"Crusty".You can bloat my ego anytime you like! And thank you for the kind words, I try to be ...although I can be crusty.

Any tips to what your playing? I am an older guy, love the guitar my entire life and started only 4 years ago. TBH, I have been nervous about other people hearing my lack of abilities. I been on this forum awhile and this hands down is the coolest thing yet, people just having a go and trying to get better. No cork sniffing, just the love of the guitar

Are you referring to the solo I played? There are MANY approaches to this kind of thing, but I do try to keep the backing tracks fairly straightforward (even in the new one, the major section is the relative major to the minor section...so same 7 notes!)
If you listen to mine, and if I recall correctly, everything I did was in the same key as the backing - Am - with maybe the odd outside passing tone. If you take away the speed element it's some fairly basic stuff, and just choosing certain notes for certain chords to follow. Really just use your ear, you can hear when it changes to the F that I do similar things each time, to sort of announce that it's changing underneath, as am I.
Really, just pick what you're comfortable with (if Am pentatonic is all you know, start there!) and just jam, making note of what sounds cool where, then you can sort of start to build phrases etc. Take the best bits, fill in the rest, and there ya go! And if you want constructive criticism just ask!
Nice going guys. Now kamanda can shred us all a 2nd time.

I think that the whole thing is that you played some licks that sounded technical but made them sound easy. It’s the mark of true love for the instrument. You have my appreciation as a musician.
What was the rig or the guitar at least? I’m betting something much different than my explorer or Lester.
