a little somethin' .. new amp

Curly

Moe's Bluesman
I ordered a custom amp several months ago, and just picked it up while I was on vacation up north.

It's basically a Trainwreck Rocket clone by Paul Ruby, more or less AC30 territory, with a little more gain on tap. My friend at work, Glen, built the curly maple cab. The cab's not finished yet, but I thought I'd post a pic. It'll be finished in a light amber lacquer.:

BTW, thanks to XSSIVE (Mike) for the cool font in the logo, which is backlit Matchless style.

I had it sent to my friend Sam (aka Jack Creek), and he liked it so much he offered to take it off of my hands. I considered that a compliment since he's a Two Rock user ... he actually ordered one like mine after playing it, plus he just got an Express type amp from Paul too.

since today's my birthday, I just ordered a blonde Avatar 212 cab with black & gold grill, and Celestion Blue/ G12H30 speakers. Should sound and look great!

Peace,
G

Hey that's a beauty Curly. :)

I am betting the combination of the Avatar and the amp will be just what you want. The light amber finish will compliment the logo on the front.

Enjoy it Curly !!!

Re: a little somethin' .. new amp

Schweet. Paul Ruby is good people. He helped me a lot when I first started figgerin' out the amp-making thang.

Re: a little somethin' .. new amp

I not only liked the amp, I played it at my church on Sunday. We have a very rockin' church that holds 1,000 people and the amp just sounded spectacular. Best british ac30 type tones I've ever heard. I have the "Express" and it just sounds incredible. Paul Ruby builds great amps.

Happy Birthday Curly Dan

Re: a little somethin' .. new amp

hey, Jack!!!!!!!! :D

yes, I forgot to mention that I got to hear my amp in a good size venue, and it sat very well in the mix

we also A/B ed it with Sam's '64 AC30, and my amp held it's own -- actually, we both preferred mine ... just a little unfair though, since the AC30 was a little fussy and noisy

sorry we didn't get to do any clips ... while Sam's Express (with 6V6s) excelled at lead tones, my Rocket excelled at nearly everything else -- crunchy rhythms, arpeggios, fills ... just a great, fun tone.

Re: a little somethin' .. new amp

Beautiful! A sweeter birthday gift couldn't have happened to a cooler person.
Enjoy. And have a happy B-day. :)

Re: a little somethin' .. new amp

That looks great! You're one of those guys that makes the GJ jones!! LOL

With all those cool new amps, I guess you can start throwing away those worn out old tweed amps you have. yeah/rite

I'm curious to know which of your OD pedals works the best with this Aereola.
hehehe

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CURLY!
:fest7: :fest6: :beerchug:

May you have a hundred more plus with that big beautiful Kenny inspired tube monster. Good luck with the amp. If it were a car I'd throw change under the driver's mat, so consider it done for the amp...if it had a mat, lol.

thanks kindly, Bros!

I'm hoping you're right on both counts! That was the idea! :D
and, Happy Birthday!!!

I'm curious to know which of your OD pedals works the best with this ...
GJ,
that is a very good question ... Sam was using a Landgraff OD and a few other pedals. He said these amps take pedals very well ... we think it has a lot to do with the simple circuit.

a lot of folks like a Hotcake with AC30 amps, and I think Menatone's top boost in a can is another good candidate ..

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Bro!
thanks Lew!
well, you KNOW I've wanted this type of amp for a while .. even BEFORE you got your Matchless. :)

Well...you know what I think my good man!

Christian,
no doubt you'd love this, as well as the Express ... simple circuit, lots of gain, touch sensitive, and great tone and harmonics

Peace,

Not to mention the small collection of OD pedals you already have! :eek13:

Do you still have the Boss OD820? I've always been curious about that pedal.

GJ,
I think you mean the Maxon OD 820 ... that's a great TS type pedal ... I'll have to come up and let you test some stuff.

That's beautiful! How far north did you go?

Ryan,
I went up to Monterey County ... lots of friends and family up there. The weather was great except for a couple days. Overall very beautiful though.

Schweeeet! Happy Birthday. Presents you buy yourself are always the best!

Re: a little somethin' .. new amp

Happy B-day!

Great present too! The only thing that dwarfs the looks are the sounds I'm sure.
