A2 pro vs. PAF Pro

Reckless Abandon

I love the A 2 pro (It is my favorite) How does the sound compare to the Dimarzio PAF Pro? I don't mean what do you like better just tone, eq, punch, harmonics, etc.

thanks

Re: A2 pro vs. PAF Pro

The paf pro dosent have as much soul to it, I think the aph has better harmonics, is warmer, and is over all a better sounding pickup in my ears.

Re: A2 pro vs. PAF Pro

The Paf Pro to my ears has a flatter eq curve. It doesn't have as many dynamics and note seperation. I've used both in the same guitar, and there really is no comparision. It's almost like the PAF Pro has a blanket wrapped around it in comparision to the APH, or any Duncan that I've tried for that matter. Perhaps this flatter, duller eq curve helps is under high gain and sound processing, but I'm not really sure.

The APH is just more open, sweeter and articulate.

Re: A2 pro vs. PAF Pro

The Dimarzio was rather thin and non-dimensional to my ears. Maybe it was good when it first came out, but I'd go with the AP2 humbucker without a 2nd thought.

Re: A2 pro vs. PAF Pro

I can't compare it to teh AP2 but the PAF Pro is one of the most balanced pickups I've ever played. That means that no frequencie really dominates the others at all. It does let the guitar come through very well IMO...but will make a bad guitar really stink.

But since most Duncans are fairly bright.....I can see why hardcore Duncan fans may not like it or call it plain sounding.

Re: A2 pro vs. PAF Pro

I've been wondering the same thing recently. I have been using a Dimarzio PAF (not sure of the exact model, there is no # on the plate) in the neck of my flying V and it sounds excellent. Really smooth, liquidy, and the attack isn't too sharp at all. I'm using that for all my Slash-ish wannabe music :D If the AP2 is really better, then that's cool. I've been meaning to get one and try it out too.

Ranalli, I got the Distortion a few days back, thanks bro!

Glad you got it okay...wasn't sure how long it was going to take to get there :burnout:

Yeah, our mail service is kinda like the bermuda triangle or twilight zone sometimes. You would think since there are no roads and everything has to ship by air, stuff would arrive within a similar time frame as other places, but it's often usually twice as long, haha.
