A2P sounding thin....

Re: A2P sounding thin....

They are magnetized differently, that's one of the things that buck-the-hum.

Remember this is a 3 dimension world and you have sides too that can attract. That is what you are experiencing on the other coil.

This is the the reason that everyone recommends the Stewmac tester, it's much, much easier. You have to know what to look for if you are using anything else.

I laughed at first glance, but now I realize, IT'S FREAKIN BRILLIANT!!

Yep. Even better, it's cheap and just down the block. Just remember to test the side that faces outward (i.e. don't put it between the two pickups -- test the neck on the neck side and the bridge on the bridge side).

so what youre saying is that the polepieces are magnetised to whatever their coil is magnetised to? that doesnt make sense because it would mean the screws and the slugs should be magnetised differently? yet when i use the magnet on a slug and a screw, both of them attract

The slugs and screws are what become magnetized, but they are not magnetized until the come in contact with the magnet. Because each is touching a different side of the magnet, they will have different magnetic polarity, e.g. the slugs might be north and the screws might be south.

Having said that, something ferrous, like a screwdriver, doesn't care about the magnetic polarity, and will be attracted to the scews and the slugs, whether they are north or south. On the other hand, a pole of a magnet will only be attracted to something with the opposite polarity.

blargh, ok just grabbed a magnet from the college and tried it. slugs on both pups attract, and the screws on both repel, so i guess the things are in phase then?

seems im running out of possible explanations for this problem :s

Just rewire it yourself. Follow the schematics on the duncan site, you'll be alright! I seriously think your bud was blowing smoke on the whole magnet switching deal. If nothing else PM Evan.

Does your swich make any loud noises? Or are your pots working properly?

Re: A2P sounding thin....

the switch is working fine, the volume pot seems to be reversed though....? will that make a difference?
because as far as the pickups wiring to the switch goes, it all follows the schematic on the SD site, well, as close as possible, i have a blade switch but the schematic is for a 3 way toggle so the terminals are in slightly different places

i could draw up a diagram of exactly how i have things wired atm if that would help any? but it is almost identical to the SD schematic
