Is it possible to change a bass which have active electronics to passive?

I just tried the best bass ever! But it has active electronics, and i'm kind of "against" it, i've promised myself not to buy something that has that, so is it possible to change?

It's an Eagle bass if ya want to know, the neck is so sweet!

Re: Active bass electronics

And oh yeah, does this look good:

4-stringed
Modern light and well balanced body in solid mahogany
Hard maple neck with new Eagle head design for maximum sustain
Hard maple fretboard, black dot markers
34" scale
26 frets!!!
1 Eagle Humbucker pickup
Active electronics
Volume, Bass, Mid, Treble controls with center position
The new Eagle bridge, no individual height adjustment for max. sustain
Strings Through Body design - maximum sustain
Chrome Hardware
Dark Brown, Natural or Black finish or Blue burst

The bass on the picture is the one i tried, is it "natural"? it looked more like orange IRL

Re: Active bass electronics

Actually, I've found EMG's in bass to sound much better than any passive.

Re: Active bass electronics

it sounds so "perfect", you can't get your "own" sound...

So is it possible to switch to passive?

Re: Active bass electronics

Well i guess all you would have to do is Take out those pickups in it, get pots that suit passive bass pickups (not sure what rating they would be), thats really the only thing that would slightly discourage you, Ao all you need is the pickups you want to put in and new pots..

Re: Active bass electronics

Have you tried taking out the battery? it should work in passive mode and you might be able to tailor your sound rather than changing pups and all the circuitry that goes with it.The bass looks nice and it is just a shame that I could not get to the shop in Stockholm and try it. 26 frets (interesting!!)

I'm gonna try to take out the battery!

Both you and i should be a shamed, you for not trying this baby out and me for ORDERING a 7ender MIM P-bass yesterday. Yeah you saw right, i've always been a fan of the p-bass and now when i got the money i decided to bought one, they didn't have it a nice colour so i had to ordered it, sorry for not telling you guys about it. So until the bass arrive i borrowed the Eagle from the store, and now i can't put it down! :yell:

So hard to decide, P-bass - Eagle, Eagle - P-bass, wonder if i can sleep tonight?

I have fallen love with the neck of the Eagle, 26 frets, i can do 3 octaves on one string! I think it's a c-shaped, it just fits perfect in your hand and you glide like a king! :13:

Yeah we both should be ashamed for not trying the bass out - chances are that I would have had to take it home with me and I already had 3 basses with me, another one would have got me in trouble :smack:

Glad that you decided to go for a P bass and I think you will like it as it will give you that much deeper growl than either an active or a jazz style bass. Although both of them are easier to play, but once you have tried a P bass and got used to the neck then you will play anything. Let us know when you get it and what you think of it.

Also let us know how you get on with the Eagle without the battery - I have a suspicion that the neck and the 26 frets will be quite different and easier to play against other necks and that it might just be a little cramped? Should make slapping quite easy with the maple board.

I really want that neck, to bad it's not availble to buy

I'm not much of a "slapper" so i can't answer on that :)

Re: Active bass electronics

from my experience.......taking out the battery makes the pickups not work at all. i would say get some passive pups and just wire them up in there like you would with passive........you can leave the preamp and battery thing in there just dont wire them up.

as for 26 frets.....youll feel the difference when playing standing up. you arm will be further out and get tired easier. i can feel a big difference between the usual 22 fret and my 24 fret warlock.

Re: Active bass electronics

wait i was thinking. before getting new pups try this.

wire the pups that are in there like they are passive because they go thru the preamp and the preamp needs the battery. im pretty sure thats why they wouldnt work.

Re: Active bass electronics

a month ago i ripped out the active electronics on my dads SR-700 and put vintage duncan p and jazz pickups in it. It was a quick job, and it sounded incredible when i was done. Woody rich tone, it's so much better than the sterile passive electronics. Plus, hes saving over 200 bucks a year on batteries, so in 1 year you'll have gotten more than what you payed for the pickups in the cash you save by going passive. I guess passive is good if you want high output, but for that get pickups with good tone, and just turn up the volume a tad! LOL.

Re: Active bass electronics

in my warlock the preamp is right next to the pots.

as for spening $200 a year in batteries, where you leaving your bass plugged into the amp? because the preamp turns on whenever its plugged in and leaving it in will drain your batteries.

iv hade my warlock for around a year and i havnt changed batteries in it yet.

Re: Active bass electronics

After som sleep i decided to stay with the P-bass. My hopefully next bass will be the Eagle, if not somebody buy's it :22:

Re: Active bass electronics

i don't understand why people get p-basses

p-bass specials are where its at, you get a j-bass neck, and both styles of pickups

of course for the growl, nothing beats an ernie ball, i'd donate blood for one of those, and i HATE needles

I don't like the J-bass so the P special is out of question :13:
