Agh! My guitar preferences change yet again!

I realized today, after thoroughly playing all of my guitars, that I prefer Gibson style nut width, radius, and fret size. My Ibanez Prestige's neck felt too slim for me and the frets felt too big. I couldn't solo comfortably on it. Then I played my Korina Explorer and knew instantly that it had the right feel. Same with my Ibanez SA. They are very similar and enhance my playing the most.

Has this happened to any of you? It's initially good because you know exactly what you want, but it sucks because you have to get rid of the stuff that no longer fits with you :smack:

no telling how many guitars I've gotten rid of because they didnt suit my playing style or preference anymore. I've gotta go get ahold of john right now and tell hime medium jumbo instead of jumbo.

Hate to say it, but I TOLD YOU SO! :laugh2:

It happens. Keep your Ibanez though, you never know when your tastes will change again. :burnout:

Preferences change. But I'd have to say, I keep stuff unless I have to sell it. You might want it agian and that's a pain to try to replace stuff you sold. If you have the room and don't need the money, hoard as much gear as you can get your hands on.

I know what you mean...my Wolfgang will be up for sale soon for this very reason. The neck is too narrow, the basswood body is too soft, and the Floyd isn't recessed enough to allow for comfortably low action with 10-46 strings.

You'd be surprised :) Check out Racer X's "Godzilla"! :13:

Re: Agh! My guitar preferences change yet again!

I like having guitars that are opposites in tone and feel.

Re: Agh! My guitar preferences change yet again!

I've kinda been through most types of guitars, and after all the buying/selling/trading up, I've found that I like Les Pauls w/59 profile, PRS McCarties, Strats, and Teles.
Still gotta have 1 Floyd equipped guitar too, so I prefer my G&L Invader.
Honestly, at this point, no other electric guitar really interests me. No matter what I pick up, it never feels as good as the ones I have, which are dialed in nicely.

This is good advice. In my teens and twenties I'd sell a guitar to buy the next one when my tastes changed. I sold several guitars I wish I still had today. If you can afford to keep it don't sell it.

exactly well said Simon F is right. If you can afford to keep it you never know when your 40 and might want to pull out that old guityar you had since you were a teen and want to play it for memory and nastalgia sake

Or just because it's a nice guitar and you're not quite dead yet. ;)
