I'm sick of not knowing what they are about, so I'm going to be doin a lot of thinking and matching with the AL2000's I've got tell the 11TH and my price is set at 250$ I really like the white AL2000 with the seymour Duncan pups or a gold top I have always loved them!

Re: Agile les pauls im going to do it!!!!

I had a goldtop 2000 that was heavenly (a bit heavy but that's not a problem for me) and a splated tri-burst that was a piece of junk.

They were a hit or miss with me. Maybe I was very unlucky or they've gotten more consistent with time 'cause I've never really heard any negative comments (or very seldom) except for mine.

Best of luck brother! Let us know how it turns out!

Re: Agile les pauls im going to do it!!!!

The 2000 series is going to be in the same catergory/league as many of your base Epi's. I'm not suggesting that you won't like it or be quite happy, but it's the 3000 series that gets the acclaim and offers the best value for the dollar. Yes, it's a 50% up charge but the return is worth the investment.

- Tusque or Graphtech nut
- 18:1 Tuners
- One piece body
- Ebony fretboard
- Decent pick-ups
- Full size pots
- Braided/shielded wiring
- Full body, neck and headstock binding

If you want to know "what they're about" you won't get the answer from a 2000 series. It's like comparing a MIM Fender to a MIA Fender; yes there is that much seperation between an AL-2000 and and AL-3000

Re: Agile les pauls im going to do it!!!!

I would stay away from the 2000.

Go for 3000 or 3100. Everything is better on them.

Edit: even the pickups are great... I kept mine stock... The tuners are awesome (grovers), the binding and finish are awesome, the top is awesome, the playability is great... I love my wide neck 3100.

I played a friend's 2000, it was buzzy and just had a cheap, "loose" feel to it.

This is what the Dauntless series was about. They were supposed to close the gap between the 2 lines, but it seems like Kurt isn't doing much with them these days and is concentrating on 8 and 9 string guitars now. At least I haven't seen any on the lefty page in a long time. Even the 7 strings have jumped in price quite a bit. I was going to get an interceptor, but they're pushing 700 now. For that, I can get a dam nice Schecter w/ a Floyd special.

Re: Agile les pauls im going to do it!!!!

Re: Agile les pauls im going to do it!!!!

I really like my 3100. its got a lot of promise. Responds well to better pups and tone caps.
It needs a fret mill ( crown and level, is that the same thing?) and I'm most likely going to
put a Seth Lover Bridge and 57 Classic neck , and a couple of Bumblees in it and call it a day.
All in all great guitar for the Dosh. I think you'll be please.
As far as the cheap little P90 guitar..plan on getting a tech it set up whole hog, and some upgrades like nut , tuners.
Sanfrog here on the forum ( the guy ' in the lair of the Hypnotoad', who by the way is a certified hypnotist who came over yesterday to trade me a set of Tx Specials for my Pickle, and somehow I gave him all my guitars and amps, I need to give him all my gear..I think..) has an SX P90 guitar he payed 129 for and it really surprised me how not bad it is.

I was going to suggest the Dauntless. The $30 upcharge is worth it for the Tusque nut alone but it's specc'd a lot closer to the AL2500 than it is to the AL3000 and once you go $289 for the Dauntless it's not that much further to $389 for an AL3000

Re: Agile les pauls im going to do it!!!!

It's not an sx is never buy one of those, its a Xaiever from GFS for 200$ set neck solid mahogany body and neck.

Re: Agile les pauls im going to do it!!!!

You had a couple of epiphones what they arent doing it for yah?

You know it doesnt take very many 300 dollar guitars to equal one really nice guitar.

I guess to me unless you've sold the epi's the agile looks like a sideways move.

You always say your strapped for cash so why add just another guitar to the heap. Save up for something nice.

^ DON'T TELL HIM THAT - YOU'RE JUDGING HIM AND BEING AN ELITIST!!!

*not an Epiphone Elitist, though. Those cost > $1000 so only rich assholes play those.

Re: Agile les pauls im going to do it!!!!

My epi standard is fine just needs some fret work, I gave the cheap epi jp jr to a friend of mine. And **** now that LP guitars are all I play and can think of I want more lol I think you could say we all have been there I just can't get enough of them...

Re: Agile les pauls im going to do it!!!!

This AL-3010 always intrigued me. I might make the jump on one some day and throw some SD P90's in it.

Re: Agile les pauls im going to do it!!!!

^ I love me a gold top! And a double cut.... god I want them all I just got down jamming and I think its save to say that I'm in love with les Paul's! :)

Re: Agile les pauls im going to do it!!!!

Well, actually he makes a very good point. Mal's posts are always constrained by budget, so if he's not reselling or trading in these guitars than it's a very legitimate question.

At some point logic needs to take hold here; If you keep buying $200 guitars expecting different results............maybe you need to sell two or three and get a $500 one!

And the AL2000 will be just a side step from a basic Epi.

Re: Agile les pauls im going to do it!!!!

I agree, sbecker. I probably would avoid the AL2000 "Les Paul" since there are better-made ones with better stock features for just a little more. I'm actually more interested in their odd-ball guitars like the one I linked to, because nobody offers anything quite like it. Rondo does make a few unique designs, but people still tend to prefer the copies. So be it. Buy one and rock the hell out of it!!!
