You're right about Gibson failing to update their Les Paul design. Every time they've come out with one, it's been a failure.......like the LP Lites, The Paul, SG Z, and all the other 'misses.'

Right now, PRS is focusing on variants of the McCarty, which is probably a good idea. I'd still love to see PRS come out with a new singlecutaway guitar that defies all the Gibson trademarks, so it's seen as a new original. Kind of like Washburn's high end guitars being different enough from the LP bodyshape to be considered original.

That's a path that I never considered.

If PRS just up and decides to change things a little bit they'd be back in the game without needing to deal with Gibson.

Of course, Gibson will do all they can to stop it. I(t's no surprise that the lawsuit went down in Tenessee, Gibsons backyard.

It's going to be interesting...but I really think it will resolve. Both parties serve to do nothing but make money.

Personally, I think they should offer a McCarty with singlecut body thickness option. That way they keep their own 'classic' look and those after a more LP tone get the right amount of mahogany for the job.

The Singlecut was a very serious line of guitars: some of the best I've played. If you can find them, they're well worth the investment.

I'd like to see PRS bring back the line, but if they can't then there's no doubt they will keep going up in value in years to come.
