Re: all-mahogany body, or maho~maple cap?

I have found the all mahogany less muddy. I had a three-pickup Gibson Black Beauty for about a year, and I thought it sounded brighter than my standard, my Studio Plus, or my '83 Custom. I only have the '83 and the Standard; the other two have been sold or traded.

Re: all-mahogany body, or maho~maple cap?

I have tried both and liked both a lot.

All other things being equal, compared to each other all-mahogany has a rowdier, more mid-focused tone while the Mahogany+Maple produces a more even response that can also be sweeter and more polite.

That's NOT to say that Mahogany+Maple can't be aggressive and/or rowdy, quite the opposite. Because of the more even response it is actually easier to tweak the tone to a specific direction with pickups.

In the end, it depends what you want the guitar for.

it so different from piece of wood to piece of wood it's really hard to say, but I find I prefer a maple cap personally...
