hey guys, i'd like to get in a little good word for David Allen of Allen amps. We took our silverface twin reverb down to David Allen and he did his magic to it, for a total restoration. He blackfaced the circuit, replaced all capacitors (used mallory 150s for tone caps),fixed the vibrato, cleaned up alot of the untidy wiring that was already in there, cleaned the pots, and installed all new tubes. We have TAD 6l6s and tung sol preamp tubes. I must say that the amp sounds amazing now. We are running it with new Eminence Texas Heat speakers, and i think they are a great match for the Fender sound. They can take all the power the twin throws at them, and keep on tickin'. This amp had quite a few problems and most of the parts were original (plus my dad has gigged it HEAVILY for 25 years), so i never had really heard it in fresh condition. The sound is so clear, and the bass can sound so deep, its awesome. just a encompasing clean tone when you really get the volume going. I've been able to play it a good volumes for a couple hours now, and i can hear the speakers settling in, and the sound just keeps getting sweeter and sweeter.
So, i'd just like to give a good word for David Allen. His work was top notch, and he sure seems to know a heck of alot about fender amps. Hes also quite a nice guy and very easy to work with. I give him a total thumbs up, hes a class act guy. Its too bad he didnt have any of his amps for us to play, but i'm sure that they sound great as well.
