Almost new guitar day!

I got a Gibson Les Paul studio plus from Sweetwater with the most amazing top! Man this top was nicer than most standards I see. It was the Sweetwater exclusive bourbon burst(which was already a finish?) But when I got it I discovered some damage under the pickguard and I play my Paul's without the pickguard so I had to send it back. That sux so bad!!! Man the top had so much movement in it and was perfectly matched. No other top they had listed even came close. I'm heartbroken. But I'm getting an SG standard to replace it. The only thing I didn't care for was the silkscreen logo. I picked a pretty nice looking SG.

To specify the gloss finish was worn off around the screw hole to were there was no way the screw was going to cover it up. IMG_20220825_152100137.jpg

That 'damage' probably could have been buffed out with the right finish conditioner. Even the little stock Gibson polish works great for stuff like that.

I don't know if it would have, I got a small spot on the back of my special and I tried the Gibson polish and it didn't work but I'm not a professional by any means. Maybe I should have taken it to a luthier... I didn't even think about it. I'm going to get another one when I find another Badass top.

Did you get a good pic of the rest of the guitar before you sent it back?

Unfortunately no I didn't. I only took the picture of the worn spot to email Sweetwater, I was bummed out and was trying to get the guitar back to FedEx before they closed to get the return process started. I should have.

Well I hope the next guitar you get is even better.

I do too, the other tops I saw were lame so I've got a SG with pretty nice wood grain coming but I now have my Sweetwater tech on the lookout for another super nice top for me. I'll definitely NGD the SG here while I'm waiting for another nice top to surface. Those Sweetwater exclusive finishes have some really nice tops on some of them, most not but some are awesome!

Damn, that sucks....especially since Les Paul Studios are $1700 now, which is about $700 too much.

If they had known, they would have charged extra for a relict finish.
