Alnico 2 for Les Paul

I´m going to replace my Burstbucker Pro in the brigde for a Alnico 2 eqiupped humbucker.
The problem with the burstbucker pro is that i wan´t more output.
I changed the neck burstbucker pro to a Gibson 57classic and totally loved it.

So i´ve thought about the SD SH-11 Custom custom.
i´m also curious about the ´SD customshop bug-sey bucker but can´t find any info about it...

So any suggestions of alnico 2 humbuckers that´s got an output more than 9k DC please let me know.

I usually play old heavy metal, early Ozzy and 80´s metal kind of music in case it helps with the suggestions.

Take care

Try putting an A2 magnet in a JB, it may be what you are looking for. I think that is basically what the Bug-sey bucker is anyway, if that info is not accurate please someone feel free to correct me.

Burstbucker 3?

It's wound to about 8.75K with an Alnico II.

I play this too (Jake E. Lee) and find the LP with BB Pros works good. My other go to is a Jackson SL2H with a JB.

Re: Alnico 2 for Les Paul

Why do you want Alnico II ? could you describe the tone you want/you're amp/efeects set-up?
Alnico II is a great magnet material but it is kinda loose on the bass and isn't necessarily the best magnet for metal.

Re: Alnico 2 for Les Paul

Don't get the Burstbucker 3. You'd be better off with a CC if you want that sound. I tried the 3 and IMO it was a very lame version of a CC, and for credibilites' sake, I don't like the CC.

If you have one laying around, try the 498T with an A2 mag in it. It may be exactly what you want if you're after more output with the Gibson sound and A2 softness.

The Alnico 2 is suppoused to be a player magnet, you can hear your finger alot better so it´s a more individual magnet.
Your fingers won´t sound the same as mine, so no mather who´s the best player i´ll still have my own unique sound:)
If this is completly true i´m not completly sure but according to my Gibson 57classic in the neck i do feel like the Alnico II magnet is such a magnet.
I have the Seymour Duncan Hotrails in my strat and i do not like the ceramic magnet.
Alnico II i haven´t tried in the brigde yet, it´s going in my les paul but i wan´t that Alnico II i´m sure it will be great for me, just have to find the right pickup that has a Alnico II

Re: Alnico 2 for Les Paul

If you like the 57 Classic in the neck, then go with the 57 Classic + in the bridge. I used to have this set in a LP Studio and they sounded great!!! The 57 Classics don't sound like Duncan A2 pickups to me.

Re: Alnico 2 for Les Paul

I really enjoy my CC but it's not for everybody. sometimes I feel like I want more bass response...but then I just shut up and keep playing.

I get the feeling that i wan´t more output than the 57classic+, anyway i´m gonna try a few Alnico 2 pickups once i get the money, just need to decide which one to have first...
Maybe the SH-11 custom custom is the thing for me, i always experience i get to much bass...

Anyway i apreciate all suggestions from everybody:biglaugh:

Re: Alnico 2 for Les Paul

I just remembered. When speaking to the good folks at Gibson about the pups in Randy Rhodes
white LP, they recomended 57' Classics.

Re: Alnico 2 for Les Paul

Didn't Randy use a Duncan Distortion? While I love his playing, I'm not so keen on his tone - I'd prefer the JB myself, like you suggested.
The Distortion came later with his Custum Jackson's. Pickup's aside, ya gotta
remember alot of his tone was from an MXR Distortion and good Marshalls.

Re: Alnico 2 for Les Paul

I have an A2P set in my SG, and i love the loose feel of the A2 mag !
It works great for my music ! YMMV, as they say !

+1- tighter & chunkier than the Custom Custom, which IMO sounds better in strat types than Gibsons.

Re: Alnico 2 for Les Paul

Wow alot of replies since last time...
The **** dealer i bought the pickup from fooled me big-time, thank god he charged my visa card the wrong amount so i got it really really really cheap...
The bastard sold me a Gibson 490T which i have put in the neck position upside-down compare to brigde position :) ha ha ha...
Still i really love the tone...
About swapping magnets i´ve never done it myself and i don´t know were to do it here in sweden, i´m gonna google some more about it...
Thanks for all the help guys...

also, it wasn't a duncan distortion, it was a dimarzio super distortion:smokin:
i don't think he had one in his les paul though, although i could be wrong.
