SO the Slash's are that much louder? Or at least directly noticeably louder?

Jeff - the Derrig guitar was brighter....now THAT I get! That would certainly creat a much perceived loudness that wasn't actually a lot. Interesting.

I never really lost my mind about Slash tone. Never found it that hard of a thing to do.

Yeah, I read an article a long time ago, but something about the wood used or the weight of the wood made it very noticeably bright. That's why it ended up with the AHP's in it, to help balance that. It also explains why the APH in that guitar had that crunchy edge, especially on AFD. The modern Gibson's are using heavier and denser wood than they used to have to, so they've been using 9 hole weight relief since the 80's to lighten it up and now use "modern weight relief", which removed even more wood. They just sound different. Therefore, new pickups needed to help get the same sound.
