Just take a bite of one...

Alnico 2 is full of chewy caramel.
Alnico 4 is fluffy nuget.
A8 is thick caramel and crunchy peanuts.

If you know that's what you have, see which ones are harder to pull off your refrigerator.

Re: Alnico bars how To know what is it?

I have a little system to keep track of my magnets. A5 holds papers on the fridge, A2 are a bit weaker so I use them to stop diagrams from blowing off my desk (more of a paperweight) and I keep ceramics in the trash.

I don't have to check, because I always know where each type is.

But in all seriousness, the fridge test stated earlier works wonders. Just make sure to mark what magnet it is afterwards, or else you'll have to do it again.

Its either fridge or you have to buy an expensive gaussmeter (or know someone who has one)

Re: Alnico bars how To know what is it?

All my magnets are marked I Just would like to know if are any easy way. But thats ok I found new usable aplications for my bars. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Without a gaussmeter, by sight alone is just not possible.
I found one Gaussmeter app on google play. Works on galaxy s7.[emoji12] [emoji12] [emoji12]

But all my rought Type bars have arround 25 , 26 gauss. I Think who seel me The bars Just put same Type of magnet in different bags with different names.

Rhandy, who did you get your mags from?

I actually deal custom-poured batches of alnico mag bars, but I'm in Italy.

I wished you good luck with that app, as no smartphone contains the required Hall-effect chip necessary to get an accurate reading.

Pepe,
You surprise me all the time, not only with your knowledge, but you actually pour your own custom alnico mag alloy?
That is just so over the top cool. To know you like Duncan p'up's makes me even more glad psychologically that I use them almost exclusively too.
I hope you don't mind a good old compliment from time to time, along with many others who deserve one every now and then.

Christopher,
Sounds logical, but what about stronger mags, like RCA5, UORC5, A4, these mags are pretty popular too. Or do you just use
and order only two types of mags?

I'm a pretty small-time merchant, although I only deal with ISO 9000-compliant foundries and buy in bulk with particular set specs.

Being custom batches with bulk numbers on the minimum, my mags cost at least five times more than cermags, but the resultant inherent tonefootprint, optimized for their use in magnetic p'ups certainly make'em worth their while.

HTH,

HTH,
I would like to improve my gibson 498t. Alnico 8 or UOA5.?
You could sell me one by paypal or something like that?
I Put alnico 5 from my 498t on 490r
I like much more.
I Think 498t is too much midrange.

All the other magnets are for putting in pickups, of course. I *tend to dislike scooped magnets such as A5s and ceramics. I also tend to find that whenever an A2 is used, most times I prefer either an A3 to ease off the boominess in the neck or a UOA5 in the bridge, possibly roughcast if the situation requires it.

But the thing about A5 as a fridge magnet is true. The A2 and ceramic things, not so much.
