Alternate Speaker Cab Wirings

Standard wiring for a 4×12 speaker cab is two speakers in series and then in parallel with eachother. Are there alternative wirings? Such as wiring all the speakers in series, putting caps in to make them less harsh or boomy, or fading a set of speakers in or out?

Re: Alternate Speaker Cab Wirings

It all depends on what you want the total ohmage of the cab to be with whatever speakers you are using.

My head automatically adjust anywhere from 8 ohms to 32 ohms.

Re: Alternate Speaker Cab Wirings

Does it really adjust, or does it just not care?

One useful variation is found on the Marshall 1960A, where you can run it in mono (all four speakers) at either 4 ohms or 16, or in stereo at 8 ohms per side.

That was a great innovation.

Fender 4x10 combos are wired to 2 ohms!

This seems to be a common switching option on cabs with variable impedance.
