I read someone online had an Alt8 pickup and swapped in an A5 then called it an Alt5. I thought that name was pretty cool and is similar to the Custom pickups in terms of renaming/nicknaming according to the magnet swapped into it.

I really want to try an Alt8 sometime as well as a Black Winter, so I enjoyed reading this post concerning mag swapping the Alt8 and got some further insight on what its about.

I would honestly suspect that an alt5 wouldn't be too much different than a JB. I would have to say that the alt 8 has been my favorite Duncan so far. Some of the sound clips that are out there don't really do it justice, and make it sound wierd or hollow.

Whatever works. The Alternative 8 is close to what I consider a perfect pickup.

I've never even tried one and I already like it better than a JB : )

A4 may be an even Better Idea , could be Real nice cause of the Harmonic qualities

I performed some swaps with Alt8 like A5s and even a ceramic. I learned it was developed around the Alnico8 and sounded best with that stock A8 (call me a cork sniffer even a different A8 didn't sound the same). My conclusion was, its too overwound for something else. I stayed with the A8 and put into a guitar that sounded a bit stiff and lacked real lows. Much better in that particular guitar.

The Alt8 is my favorite(and the Pegasus close 2nd).
