save up a bit more and look at a nice used standard. Possibly see if you can find one with the slimmer 60s neck

+1 to this OR with $1,400 budget why not a nicely used Gibson Les Paul Standard?

You can try to find a late 70s/early 80s Yamaha SG 1000 and 2000s. They are absolutely fantastic.

They can be tough to find under $1500, but there are some auctions on Ebay that still haven't hit $1000 yet. Occasionally, you may be able to snatch one up for $1200 to $1300 range.

I have had the privilege of playing the current model. It's amazing but it's not cheap.
