Am I being a big baby about hanging my guita on a wall hanger?

Re: Am I being a big baby about hanging my guita on a wall hanger?

Id hang mine if I had a place to. I used to be like blueman and prefer them in a case, nice and safe and dust free. (especially when my kids were young). But now, Id leave them out to enjoy seeing them and I could just grab one whenever. It would be easier than digging thru all the cases and all.

This.

Guitars like humidity. I live in New England. Those little self contained humidifiers you leave in the case don't do much, and I'm not buying/ maintaining 20 of them. Guitars are on the wall/stand with humidifier cranked up.

Watching a video of Stevie Ray Vaughn trash his strat on the stage and then pick it up and start playing in tune made me well aware of how sturdy guitars are...but I still baby mine because my name doesn't equate any guitar I want. :D

I won't hang my USA Soloist on the wall. Everything else, sure. But if I had a Telecaster, I probably wouldn't hang it up -- that headstock shape is a wall-hanger repellant.

And you'd be WRONG!

I seriously didn't think anyone complained about dust since the invention of the Swiffer.

The hooks on all my hangers are the open kind where the tubing is made out of graphite-coated Teflon. You know -- the ones you probably looked at and thought, "I'm not hanging my Telecasters on those."

As for Earthquakes, that is a valid concern. The hangers that I use are Off the Wall. They're have three bolts each and they swivel from side to side. In a really bad earthquake, I'm sure they'll end up on the floor. But in a mild earthquake, they just swing around a bit.

And I live in a quake free zone. But Hurricane inspired storm surge is a concern. So up off the floor is a good idea…

I like them on the wall mostly like evan said
- Any guitar at arms reach at any moment
- I like to look at them
- Out of the way

The Pacific NW has quakes, so no wall hangers for me. The safest place for your guitar is in its case--especially so for Gibsons and their notoriously week headstocks.

Seriously, how much trouble is it really to get a guitar out of its case?

^ Don't you ever underestimate how lazy I am.

I live in earthquake territory, and we're due for another sometime. I have a wall to wall line of guitar cases, and I take them out like books. I also have two rambunctious little dogs, so I can't leave them leaning against things out of my sight or even on stands.

As a guy who plays a lot more when the guitars are out, I don't know that it's so much an effort thing as it is "out of sight, out of mind". Seeing a guitar will prompt me to play a lot more than seeing a guitar case, especially since my guitar cases tend to be put away.

I'll keep one out at a time, so it's there on the couch waiting to be played. Then it goes back in it's case and I take another one out for a few days.

As soon as I move into my new house, my new awesome mancave is going to have a wall of guitars, with my 3 Gibson electrics proudly displayed front and centre. None of them are in perfect condition, but they all have good stories to tell, so I might as well have them out where they can be seen.

I would love to get my guitars on the walls but in this house I have two big windows that face the street in my office. The city boy in me doesn't want to invite unwanted guests to the house when I am not home. When I finish my Mancave in the basement the guitars are definitely going up on the walls.
