P90 and wrap tailpiece MUST be played with supreme attitude. If your gonna be prissy with it, just quit now. Otherwise, strangle and choke a note or chord until it's right. And if it isn't, Eff it and move on!!! :headbang:

Had to run a work errand right by my local Guitar Center, so I stopped in to play the Melody Makers. No dice. They are just now starting to get some of the 2014 models in. I did put a matte Fireburst LP Studio VG through its paces using a '68 Princeton reissue followed by a standard Deluxe Reverb Reissue. (The Princeton was put to shame by the Deluxe, BTW.) Okay guitar sound wise, and nice color scheme, but even marked down to $800, it seemed overpriced. It was put together pretty roughly, finished extremely cheaply (no grain filler and no buffing made it look like a high school wood shop project). And it played like an oar, with horrendous fretwork (not to mention the fair amount of shop wear on it). Like most Gibsons, the retail price is about twice what it ought to be, given the build quality; it felt like a $500 guitar. I honestly think Epiphones are built better than Gibson's lower-end guitars these days. If a $1,000 Gibson is at that level, I don't even want to know what the $600 Melody Maker is like. I think I'm gonna wait for a used one and then soup it up a bit.

I'm really liking them. Played a few gray ones and a yellow one, the Johnny Thunders in me wants a yellow one.

A Les Paul with P90's is just a pure tone machine straight from the get go. Melody Makers may look goofy to some, but I think its simplicity is what gives it its charm. My guitar partner was giving them flack the other day, but I thought, you shouldn't judge until you try it and figure it out for yourself. This actually makes me want to go play on one now.

I bought these to try out pickups and wiring ideas. Quartersawn 50's necks, Duncan HB-103. Only ~200 made of each variant. Could be a sleeper someday.

I'm really liking them. Played a few gray ones and a yellow one, the Johnny Thunders in me wants a yellow one.

For my Marshall Class 5 or my Princeton, it's my go-to electric right now. Add a Tubecreamer, a Crybaby and maybe an analog delay, and you're set.

Took it to a pro after about five months for real-deal intonation/and set-up. Plays great, more filling. The best of all possible electric worlds.

It's amazing to me that Gibson, of all companies, would offer an American-made guitar for less than $600. I know the price went up a bit last spring, but still. A nitro-finished, set-neck electric with the word "Gibson" on the headstock? For less than a Korean-made PRS?

Yes, it's a Satin finish, and no, it will never win beauty contests. I get that. Not for everyone. I get that, too.

Unfortunately, I just got back from a trip to a lake, so my head is pretty much in an acoustic place right now. I'm having a tough time putting down my Martin.

When I plug in again, I'll grab the Gibson or a Tele, I'm sure.
