Amazing Tone!

I get my best results with a DOD Grunge into a Fender Frontman 10W. If it’s a quieter rig I use a Boss AC-2.

To get Kurt’s Nirvana MTV Unplugged tone I play the AC2 into the DOD. You can’t tell it apart from the record.

Make sure you only use a Fender Strat. You Cant Go Wrong With a Fender Strat.

good strat->bf super reverb. volume 4, treble 6, mids, 5, bass 4, reverb 3. boom. amazing clean tone

Yeah, I'd say also, the Fender Magic Six settings on a Twin, Deluxe, Super Reverb, Vibroverb etc etc from a nice single coil guitar is homerun for good tone.

Strat with fender tweed champ @ max volume…definitely amazing tone…get that champ moded to run a kt88 tube foe amazing tone plus…

6 on the volume of a bf fender should be breaking up a fair amount, which is why i said 4, which on my pro or twin is pretty clean. 4 is pretty juicy on my deluxe. i agree though that you should get awesome tone with the magic six on those amps. strat, tele, les paul... they all sound damn good

clapton used a '56 strat and tweed champ for almost all (all?) his guitar parts on the layla record

If you want amazing tone, learn to play guitar really well. Focus on touch, dynamics, and rhythm. You can sound great with cheap gear if you know what the fuck you're doing.

yes, if you are a great player you can sound good on almost anything. but youll sound better with a good rig than a bad one. same player, same notes, same touch and feel on a line 6 vs '64 super reverb. would be an easy decision for me

Jesus man, dont start. We both know what you are saying is totally true but the context of the question is about the gear portion of the tone quest and you will just bring out the naysayers about tone in the fingas... :)

I want amazing tone. What amp and pedals should I use to get it and what settings should I use?

:D

I shall give you the precise formula for amazing tone.

I have almost 40 years experience in the field - includes playing guitar, playing live, owning/running 24 channel 3000W PA, building/modding guitars, building/modding tube amps, building/modding stomps, mixing, recording, engineering, tone testing, tone cloning, studying the greats, etc

Basically speaking (and for the layman), I have a PhD in tone (and I'm still learning new tricks).

Here are my highly experienced nuggets of tone widsom:

You'll need -

- a guitar (doesn't matter what brand)
- an amp (tube, but doesn't have to be)
- a speaker (doesn't matter what brand)
- a boost/OD or distortion pedal (doesn't matter what brand)
- add delay for more amazing tone (doesn't matter what brand)
- add trem for even more amazing tone (doesn't matter what brand)
- set all amp and pedal knobs to around "5" and leave them, if you attempt to tweak anything, you'll just get confused

Now you may be wondering why I didn't recommend any brands, well... the brands don't matter because it all sounds pretty much the same between them anyways

Finally, if you can't afford some of that gear listed, then just get a BOSS Metal Zone and go straight into the board.

P.S. My list there will also get you extremely close to Van Halen I & II album tone.

I know this because I read it on a gear forum.

Yeah but, will this get me Dimebag tone?
