American Deluxe Stratocaster® FMT HSS replacement pup's

The fretboard is ebony it has a 1/8' maple top and a alder body I want the HB for distorted solo to sing and cut through but have some nice thickness to it.The neck pup to have a nice SRV bubbly tone with a little more high end than normal. then I want the 2 and 4 position to have that clean strat quack, and all of this with no hum if possible

I play through a Hot Cat 30r with a 2 x12 cab.:headbang:

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Matt

Middle and neck: Classic Stack Plus
Bridge: '59, JB or possibly an Alternative 8 with a coil tap.
What kind of output level do you want from the bridge bucker?

are those pups screwed into the body? If so, you might be stuck because there's no plastic pickguard to suspend it from.

High output but not heavy metal more Neal Schon'ish or Joe Perry.

Well the HB Bridge Pup has a plastic ring the singles don't...here's a picture of my guitar.

Re: American Deluxe Stratocaster® FMT HSS replacement pup's

look at the bridge pup:

if it's hardmounted to the body through those 2 screws, i'm not sure if SD can make a new pup that will follow the hole pattern of the 2 screws on the left side. If it's hard mounted to the body through the rings, a spring, and then into the pup and then the body... then the same thing, you'd need a fender mounting plate and send it to SD for setup at the CS. I'm not 100% sure how you'd get the 1 screw / side that is standard on HBs and TBs to fit in there, but those are my best guesses... You may have to bore a hole somewhere to get the 1 / side screw'd pickups to fit.

We'd have to see how that HB is routed in person before a truly final call could be made, otherwise what good is it to recommend pups where the screw holes don't line up or fit into the body?

Interesting, This is why I wanted to go the SD route because EMG's would require lots of augmentation which I was trying to avoid but if it's just a hole being drilled I can live with that I will see my luthier today and see what he thinks but at least I have a idea of what model pup's to get.
Thanks to all for the help!

The bridge pickup is not mounted to the wood, just the neck and middle are.

There's a simple solution to the 2 mounting screws on the bass side of the stock pickup ring. Replace it with a different pickup ring.

Hey, what a brilliant idea. ;)

:laugh2:

It's quite an obvious solution. I don't know why Jason was recommending what he did. It's totally unnecessary.

I'm thinking this with all the Info I received.

Neck Classic Stack
Middle-Duckbucker
Bridge-Alternative 8

Re: American Deluxe Stratocaster® FMT HSS replacement pup's

Welcome to the forum!

For the N/M any of the quiet singles would be a good option. I'd lean towards a stack to maintain cosmetics, but that's me. Lots of guys really dig the duckbucker.

If you are wanting a Perry or Schon sound I'd stick with a 59, C5, or JB. The question is going to be how much brightness is "too bright". The LSR roller nut is going to make for a brighter sound than a traditional bone or even plastic nut.

Thank you again for the input.. this does look like a good place to hang and and get answers and opinions on all things guitars!

If I were you I'd get the PATB-3 Blues Saraceno, because it makes Strats sound like Les Pauls, and Les Pauls have the sound you're after. Or, you could go with the Alternative 8, too.

Re: American Deluxe Stratocaster® FMT HSS replacement pup's

you dont even NEED to change anything, just get a trembucker, a TB-4(JB) would work great for what your wanting, or any of the customs in trem spaced.. the trembuckers have 3 holes on each side and they should fit perfectly on fender rings, and on the plus side this is a strat after all and has a trem so the pole alignement will just work perfectly here

Re: American Deluxe Stratocaster® FMT HSS replacement pup's

the reason i ask is this:

the ring holds the pup, so the pup and the ring are together... but where is the insertion into the guitar so the pup doesn't fall out!

The pickup is held to the ring with the screws/springs and the 4 screws on each corner of the ring hold it on to the guitar, just like any other guitar that's got humbuckers that aren't direct mounted or mounted in a pickguard. In the photo, those 4 ring screws are black.

i never noticed that! Thanks :D. Thus I take back what i said on it being impossible. *hangs head realizing he forgot rings have mounts on corners, and feels very happy he learned something new*.
