hey: I have a vox ad30vt it's a great little amp...but it has to much bass...should I try it with a open back? What is the main difference between a closed back and a open back?

A fellow kentuckian. An open back will allow for a more 3D type of sound whereas a closed back will be more focused. As far as the bass is concerned someone else can probably comment a little better on that than me.

Yes, with a open back your bass notes won't have the thump or the booming sound.

try tilting the cabinet up some or lifting it off the groung entirely ... you get a fair amount of bass coupling with the cab flat on the floor (or too close to a wall)

yes, an open back cab will have less bass 'oomph' ...

good luck

the low end will also be a bit "looser" sounding in an open back cabinet as well, if you know what i mean.

Re: amp open back or closed

tone4days hit coupling already- get it away from walls and corners as well and it is likely to sound like a 'new' amp-

Re: amp open back or closed

If you turn it into a sort of transmission line then open backs will give you so much more bass that it's ridiculous, not like you'd do that though.
