when an amp is rated at 40 watts does this mean that it peaks at 40, or does it mean its 40 watts at a certain volume #?

Re: amp power ratings

i think most amps are usually rated a little conservatively, but yes, it should be 40 or a little more, when at full volume

however, with alot of amps, you can get to around 7, and thats as much actual (audible) volume as your gonna get, any higher and it just gets more overdriven

but ive read where old marshalls and hiwatts rated at 100 watts, have actually been tested up around 120-130 somtimes! heh......

Heck, with Tweed amps, try 3 instead of 7. At three you just maximized the clean headroom, from there it's various degrees of cream.

I use my legacy at 50 watts and how loud it is is unbelievable (in a bad way) I'm going to get an attuenator.

I'm a big fan of non deafening quality volume levels
