angus runs the eq all at 6 and the amp cranked...slash has treble 3, bass 8 and mids 4, with the pre section minimal and the post/power tube gain maxed out

his clean channel is the same only he uses kt66 tubes in his custom head

Re: amp settings

all my EQ knobs stay pretty near 5. bass is about 6, mids 5, treble 4-5, and presence closer to 3, being the only exception. and the gain at about 6-7, depending on the guitar. my settings for clean are similar, only with the mids around 3 or so. it's on a dual rec running EL34's, which may be why it sounds goofy.

Re: amp settings

how do u like that engl? if you dont mind me asking, how much did you pay for that? and could you compare its sound to anyone famous?... ive tried getting some good soundclips but i dont really like soundclips much because i dont know how the amp was set up...i was lookin at powerballs but damn, they're exspensive!

I paid 955€ for that one.

I like the amp very much but the presence knob is only on 1-2 for lead stuff. If I go over 4 it becomes too fizzy for leads but I love the sound for rythm work then, very transparent.

I changed the V1,V2 and V4 stock tubes for JJs already and the clean sounds improved and I´m now planning to go with JJs for the power tube section too, which will smooth the last edges in the overdrive channel out, I hope.

It is a bright amp but if you tame the presence in the drive channel you get some really silky tones out of it. Try the amp first in a store and make sure the presence knob is on 8-9 o'clock.

I can´t compare the amp to other amps..don´t have much experience. I just ordered a T.C. G-major and the great thing is the Screamer has a serial and parallel loop..you can switch between them. I didn´t try the amp with a pedal out (tubescreamer, AC-Booster etc.) but I should try that :)

Few of the settings in there are way off...
Besides, it really depends on the amp... I hate the tone of Marshalls with the treble on 10... and I really like the tone of a twin reverb with the treble up there...
Lately I've been playing mostly Marshalls (just a phase, it will go away.. maybe...:smokin: ) My settings are usually treble at 7 mids around 5 and bass on 3 or 4...

Re: amp settings

On my V-32 They're set at

Treble - 1 o'clock
Middle - 3 o'clock
Bass -10 o'clock

On My Blues Jr

Treble - Almost maxed
middle - 2 o'clock
Bass - 4'oclock

I play a Strat with h-s-s with 250k pots so I need a little more high end to cut through.

Re: amp settings

I just found this thread, and I think it deserves a bump, cause I'd like to see more settings.

I scoop my mids more than anything, so I usally have the treble almost dimed (can't play rockabilly without treble!), depending on the guitar/amp/pickups. But with my Green buddy with the current pups, treble is almost always close to dimed. Bass is maybe a 7 or 8 usually, mids around 4. I like that scooped sound a fair amount.

Now with really great amps for rythym rock playing (not rockabilly), I turn the mids up and the bass down. No mud for me.

Re: amp settings

I don't run with an amp. I like really clean sounds so I usually go guitar->di->computer. Need to get a tube preamp to round things out a bit.

Re: amp settings

On my Diezel, Marshall's, and Mesa's, my EQ knobs are always between 10:00 and 1:00. The only things ever out of that range are gain and volumes.

Re: amp settings

I don't think any pro nusician who GIGs regularly uses the same settings in every room. Years ago I used to play in this one room that had a metal ceiling. If I used the same sttings in that place as I did in the sudio the treble would have been so high I would have broke all the windows!

Your EQ needs to be adjusted to the enviornment in which you will be playing. Then once the room fills up with people you will have to adjust it again!:argh:

It would be so easy if you could just set it and leave it, unfortunately it doesn't work that way.

I also find that depending on where I am standing in comparison to the amp.... I may adjust it some more!
