Amp took a dump :(

Re: Amp took a dump :(

Peavey has some inexpensive new stuff, and the used can usually be had for short money.

RE 10 vs 30: I'm playing exclusively at home. The 10 looms like it can be had used for around $100, also.

Re: Amp took a dump :(

So am I... The speaker *really* lacks for bass. (It was my only amp for something like 8 years, dude... trust me on this. If I had to buy one all over again, I'd get a 30 (of which there's one on the 'bay for $125)).

And you can't just throw any speaker under it - they claim the speakers they use are voiced for their preamps, so (supposedly) you can't build a speaker cab and throw it on top, but I'm not sure I buy that.

I'd believe it. The Trademark was the only amp I ever tried that had some sort of speaker voicing in the effects send. (It didn't work for the way I use amps... effects send into computer and adding speakers via software.)

On the plus side, though, you can get a few of the Power Engines, and daisy chain 'em - as loud as you want, and it sounds like exactly what you put into them.

Re: Amp took a dump :(

Glad to hear that rebooting it solved it.

One time, I bought a Line 6 Flextone off a guy for $100 because I was positive it only needed a system reboot. I made money on that deal. Another time, I got a guy's L6 to sound right by realizing all his patches had the noise gate all the way up.

I have a Vox Valvetronix head that stopped working, and stupidly gave up on it for 2 years. A forum member suggested that I scrub out the jacks. It instantly came to life when I sprayed Deoxit into the FX loop jacks and scrubbed them with a Q Tip.

Re: Amp took a dump :(

Most of the trouble I have had with any amp
Is related to the jacks
And their cleanliness

Re: Amp took a dump :(

A blues junior would be cool, but give a Peavey Classic a try. They are cheaper than Fenders and they sound great. Used Classics can be very cheap.

Re: Amp took a dump :(

Been playing an old Carvin XV-212 for years, and that thing always fires up and lasts through a practice, or show with no hiccups. Played my Jet City Picovalve for quite a few years, with a variety of tubes and the only problem I ever had was it cutting out at one practice due to a dying power tube (one of the several that I have run through it, the rest with no problems, 6l6's, KT-77's & 88's, and 6CA7's.
