Amp You Have Owned

Re: Amp You Have Owned

My first amp was an Ampeg Reverb-o- Rocket. I think it was 25watts with a 1 12" speaker. Not sure. I bought it when I was about 15 years old which was 40+ years ago. I learned to play on that amp. Then I replaced it with a blackface Vibrolux. I blew a fuse on the vibrolux and proceeded to jam tuin foi in the fuse housing and fried the tranny!!!! Young and foolish mistake. The story gets worse. I stuck the vibrolux in my Moms basement with every intention of repairing it at some point. Well years later I went back to get it and my Mom had thrown the old beautiful amp out!!

Currently I own a 68 Super Reverb, a 67/68 Deluxe Reverb, a Marshall 900 50W combo, a Genz Benz Shenendoah 80W acoustic amp, a Bogner Shiva And a Komet 60. My main amps are my Komet and my Bogner, but when I play out I usually use the Deluxe Reverb. I am playing mostly blues or blues fueled music. The DR works well for that but if the venue is very large I will use the Bogner.

As much as I feel the Komet is probably the best sounding amp I have ever played through in most places its just too loud but I won't sell it.... Its just way too good of an amp to part with.

Re: Amp You Have Owned

My first amp (which I still have) is a Crate practice amp and I can't remember the model number.

From there, I got my Pignose which I still have and then a crate G10 - something - ch...I dunno. It was black and carpet covered and had GREAT Chorus in it. When I was 11, I thought it had amazing distortion.

For a time, in my late teens, I was convinced that if I had a rack setup, I would sound like Steve Vai (lol) so I called up Carvin and bought a 500watt mosfet poweramp with two vertical 2x12 cabs for stereo and at the time, the plan was to buy the Carvin Quad-X preamp which never happened because I got talked into buying a Hughes and Kettner Attax preamp which sucked harder than Traci Lords. So that whole freaking rig is gone and I don't miss it AT ALL.

Around 1996 I bought an original Fender Blues Deluxe and played that with a Boss MT-2 Metalzone for yeeeeeeeeeeeears and years.

Around 2004 I went apeSh!t when I bought my first boogie and at that point it goes:
Mesa/Boogie Series 1 RoadKing
Mesa/Boogie Series 1 Stiletto
Mesa/Boogie Series 1 Single Rec Solo 50
Mesa/Boogie Mark IV
Mesa/Boogie Blue Angel
Mesa/Boogie Coliseum 300 (just in case ;) )
I use the Mesa 2x12 and 4x12 traditional slant cab.

So then...I caught a Marshall bug. I grew up around Marshalls and swore I'd never buy one unless I found a 1988 50Watt JCM 800 which I did!!!

Then I bought a JCM2000 because Allison Roberston of The Donnas used one and I thought it was amazing.

I think it was two years ago that I bought The Marshall JMP-1 and the JTM-1...you know those little 1 watt amps they released?? They are both awesome and the JCM-1 I received sucked so I sent it back.

And finally, a couple of Christmases ago I picked up a Fender 57 Handwired Champ which is pretty cool.

So that is pretty much that (this week :D)

My 3 favorites are the Blues Deluxe, The Roadking and the Mark IV.

I wish I still had a chorus like the one in that Crate amp, but the amp was so bad I never think about it.

Cool thread man.

Rock out,

~LD

Re: Amp You Have Owned

Someone mentioned a Pignose earlier. Somewhere around 2004 I picked up one of those tube Pignoses. 40 watts, 1x10 combo. Sounded decent enough as a portable jam session amp. However, mine had some reliability issues, so I chucked it out a second story window to the concrete below.

Re: Amp You Have Owned

I have owned:
- Some cheap Ibanez practice amp
- Peavey 5150 Combo
- Marshall JCM 2000 TSL

I currently own:
- Marshall JVM 410H
- Mesa/Boogie Triple Rectifier
- Fender Blues Jr
- Peavey VTM-120 (my first amp)
- Peavey Vypyr 15

My top amps are the JVM, Triple Rec and believe it or not, the Vypyr (it's great for playing in my bedroom).

And I don't miss any of the amps I've parted with.
