Ampeg R212R

Fellas,

Can anybody compare Ampeg R212R against a Bassman 59RI, Peavey Classic 30 and/or Blues Jr. (of course tonally, given the fact that the wattage figures are different). I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

B

Re: Ampeg R212R

It's a sleeper amp. A lot of people didn't have faith in Ampeg guitar amps, and believed Fender was better. Those mid 90's amps have a nice smooth breakup and reverb. What more do you want? I've played several of them and liked them, but never bought one. Like you, I see them for sale once in awhile and think of buying one. I like the 2-12 version. I talked to a knowledgable guitar store owner, and he used one as a gigging amp and swore by it. I have a feeling that if you tubed one up with the very best tubes, you'd have something that sounds just as good as many boutique amps.

That's exactly what's going on. Scary! :burnout:

Thanks Bro. I definitely am gonna be looking into that deal, and if I were to score a good price, I might get it. I am kinda afraid that it might end up with another amp that sounds very similar to my Bassman 59RI.

They usually go for about $400 used, just like most DeVilles. If I saw a clean blue/silver 2-12 from the mid 90's for less $350, I'd jump immediately. I really like knobs they use on the chrome chassis. Looks cool.

Re: Ampeg R212R

I haven't tried the 2x12, but I've tried the 50w 1x12. Very cool variation on the vintage fender-style amp. Kind of sounds like a very large blues junior to me when cranked. A friend gigs with one, and he gets a killer sound.

One day soon, I'm going to get a vintage ampeg jet or reverberocket. the same guy I know has a 60s reverberocket (converted to take 6l6s) as well, and it is small amp heaven.

Re: Ampeg R212R

If you have a chance to buy one you won't be sorry. Mine when cranked up has a real smooth overdriven sound. Compared to my vibrolux, it's not as bright.
