Amps like Marshall JCM800?

Re: Amps like Marshall JCM800?

hey, I know what the thread is for...

but BUY THE 800. Search, you WILL find one cheap! It will hold it's value and give a tone to die for. If you don't like it - the 2203 - 2204 models mod soooo easy!

If you disagree - my 2 cents is the Traynor YBA-1 or YBA-1A - I think they can be hot-rodded so well, and sound great cranked! Esp. with a good pedal. Early JCMs take pedals so well! YBA's do as well. Hell I have run a POD thru them and they ROCK!

I'd have to agree with the old Laney heads. I had one as well. It was close...not the same, but close to tone of my 800s...a little darker..a little fizzier on top...typical Laney.

I'm not fam with the Peavey Butcher (only in name), but the VTM series I think it was? The one with the dip switches? That was a good sounding Marshall type amp. Lot higher gain, but did lower 2203 type gain well too (Vandenberg used it for awhile).

The VTM 120 is another sleeper of an amp and I think it's what Steve Morse has used for ions also? The VTM came out right after the Butcher...The Butcher is a kicka$$ amp for cheap(Normally around $250-$300)...The VTM probably could be bought for around that price also....I forgot about the VTM series...:smack: :laugh2:

VTM's are cool amps as well...Kim Thayil used to use them in the old day of Soundgarden...got a killer tone IMO. I had one for a while thaty belionged to my drummers dad...used it throgh a 2x12 and got a cool tone from it, they are very tweakable as well!

Good call on the VTM!
