Chris of Arabia!
Let me be one of the first to say of all the funny and well done jokes, jabs, voice-overs, etc. This is the funniest and most original thing I have ever seen on the Seymour Duncan Forum. Other people have made me laugh out loud, alone here, and I have given them credit, as it takes a lot to crack me up out loud.
This is a piece of genius. I seriously want to call the service guys at Gibson and tell them to look this up, not to berate them, but because I think it'l crack them up to. They probably can't stand working for Gibson anymore.
Man, Thank You. I must call some people I know and they must see this. By the way, I tried out a ES Les Paul today, ice tea burst, and the sales guy and I could not believe how sh*tty the craftsmanship was. The neck was built for a 5 year old. The "maple cap" was about the thickness of the binding all around the guitar, very near to a veneer type. The neck pickup was about an inch or more from the strings, the pickup was almost all the way out of the ring to get even close to the strings. The whole thing was a POS. And to think I wanted one. It sure looks different in person.
Possibly the worst guitar neck I and the salesman have ever held.
So thanks again, that was so well done however that I think someone from management at Seymour Duncan who see's this should give you a free pickup as a prize for funniest jab at a guitar company for 2014!!!!

Didn't really follow the background story on this. Does it have to do with Gibsons shortage of rosewood and such in stock? I checked the prices on a Les Paul Custom with ebony board and it starts at 5000 euros new :34:. I'm almost too scared to play my '82 Custom now.

Have to agree with Adolf here on the E-tune thing. Can't believe there is even the slightest demand for something like that. Especially on a Gibson, which most will buy (I'd think) for the classic appointments.

Nope its not about wood shortage.... its about Gibsons inexplicable desire to increase prices 29% to become a luxury brand.

Do they even offer ebony boards on customs now? I know for awhile ebony was an absolute no go and customs only came with Richlite fingerboards...

If Jesus ever comes back, and if he is, I hope it's soon, I do believe Gibson will be on top of his Smite list.

Well I dont want to drag a banned topic into this... But personally i think the people who continue to buy Gibsons are more culpable. Gibson gets away with their shenanigans because the buying public lets them... they keep voting with their wallets and we keep seeing what it gets us.

Not on, errr, standard Customs. There's a special run for Thomann though and some of the Artist Signature series still have ebony boards (excluding the Zakk Wylde model).

On becoming a luxury brand: I'd have to say they really, really, really should step up in terms of quality then. People talk about how the Norlin era was so bad, but comparing those guitars to present day production, the difference in workmanship and material is clearly in favor of the Norlins (not talking pancake era here for fair comparison).

Yeah, Edgecrusher,
If You mean religion being a banned thing, sorry about that, I just meant to lighten things up for a sec. Believe me, religion and politics are not conversations I want to enter into.

That was fantastic! I love Les Pauls, I have four, and I bought a traditional pro 2 back in February for $1700 2013 model). I felt that it was worth the price ($200 off) and the quality on it was really good. That being said I have seen a lot of new ones that were pretty poor quality for that price, and as much as I love mine I would never buy one for 2015 prices.

I saw they have a production LP Jr., but reading the specs it has a wider (why?) fingerboard, that E-tune thing, and they've gone to the slim taper neck, none of which I'd want. Why screw up a simple guitar like that?. And it's about $400 more than they were in the last model. I don't get their thinking on these "improvements".

Gibson discussions are trending in the same direction as those other topics.

I get why they keep making changes; they're trying to justify higher prices with new and different features. At least they aren't just jacking the prices up on the same old, same old. Except for the historic series, that's exactly what they are doing there.

Re: An alternative view on the 2015 Gibson line up

I was waiting for somebody to make one of those. Best Hitler flipping out vid yet.

Re: An alternative view on the 2015 Gibson line up

I don't believe Gibson has any expectation of selling any 2015s at this time. They are trying to make their overpriced <= 2014s look like a bargain as is. Then after the current stock clears out, they'll pull the 2015s down to where the others are now and push those.

Re: An alternative view on the 2015 Gibson line up

That guy Fluff from Riffs, Beards and Gear has an interesting theory. He says that before the Norlin people sold Gibson to it's current owners, they stopped producing the Marauders and other unconventional designs to make the company more appealing to prospective buyers. He seems to think they might be positioning the company for a sale by showing that they make upscale instruments only.

Re: An alternative view on the 2015 Gibson line up

That was really funny, thanks for the laugh.
I like my gibsons and don't care what they do, if I can't buy their guitars I won't start crying like a baby on the internet, I'll either save my money or buy something else... The second option seems more likely. There are plenty of killer guitars out there, no need to limit ourselves, unless one is really stuck on having a precise name on the headstock. If it comes down to liking "real" les pauls, the used market will always be around and crackheads/out of work dudes will always need more money than guitars...
