Obviously if he wants to grab anybody's attention next time, this fairy tale NGD doesn't work anymore.

Counting down. Just 3 more days until... a new thread about VHS tapes, Hammond organs, or squirrels.

Re: An Incoming NGD on my Birthday! FREE 1971 Fender Strat

Back on page 3 of this thread, someone posted a photo of his Strat to tide us over while waiting for photos of the free 1971.
Here's one for Strat enthusiasts, so there's something to look at until the alleged free 1971 Strat makes an appearance.
Strat 1.jpg

Strat 2.jpg
It's 8 years more recent than a 1971.

Those must be old photographs. The finish on the Silver Anniversary Stratocaster usually shrinks and discolours - always assuming that its owner has not already smashed it in frustration. (Not one of CBS/Fender's better efforts.)

Those photos were taken since 2009. Can't remember exactly when. I don't take it out of the case much. It's probably been in the case since I snapped the pics.
It is a little discolored. Greenish in some spots. It soaked up dye from a guitar strap I used to use with it, so it's brown by the back strap knob.
I agree, not CBS/Fender's best work. I didn't know enough about guitars at age 16, but if I'd seen it in a shop after I'd been playing longer, I'd have passed on it. It has a few QC issues.

I remember when those came out, I encountered a few of them around 1979-84, and very occasionally since then. They were all as heavy as lead. None of them had any 'charm' or endearing Strat-like qualities that made you want to play them.

I got offered a mint one for 375.00 about 15 years ago. Should have bought it , they are 2500.00 now . Instead I bought the hot rod deville for 275.00 I dirt poor.

They're a collector's item alright, and that would have been known when they were concieved of. But not collectible because of their playability.

I've seen a million Stratocasters on stages, but never once have I ever seen anyone ever play one in a live setting. And that's not because they're too precious to gig with.

I'd play my 1971 in a live setting, guitars are made to be played and abused...

although i agree with the sentiments.. no guitar is really meant to be "abused" unless its normal wear/tear.. accidents do happen as well

^ Not the old ones that are extremely expensive that haven't been played and abused. They were made to be in a museum. Even IF they weren't "made" for that, that's what they are for now.If you had a mint '71, and yeah, 25 grand for one, custom color, but the thing is, you cannot find them, they have all been hoearded up. Do NOT get me wrong, this isnt a Tele, or a '72. Get you fact straight.

again i agree with you sentiment.. well sorta

I DONOT agree with the asinine price of older instruments fetch these days nor do i agree with new prices that some companies ask for.. NO guitar is worth more than 2500 unless its a custom shop model AND this doesnt mean what I call production custom.. and seriously.. people act like just because a guitar is gibson LP,SG,or strat they something special.. they can be but so can any guitar...just because something is old, doesnt equate to good.. A piece of history perhaps but really cant see buying a guitar and just hanging it on a wall to show it off never to be played.Id make a terrible collector as I wouldnt give a sh*t it was a 59 LP or a 62' strat.. id still play it like it was a squire..Now i probably wouldnt let other fingers touch it either..lol

i long for the days I could walk into a music store or pawn shop and walk out with a 15 year old LP,SG,strat for $350 each.. that was only in the mid 90's too.. really not that long ago. I know because I did just that..

to be stupid and young.. GRRR!!!!

>> edit.. a clarification^^ trusted the wrong people

You underestimate his power... wait is power the right word? Perhaps stubbornness...
